Biden says he will sponsor (or whatever he has in mind) some new law to codify Roe v Wade into Federal law in the new year.

Jesus H. Christ, how out of touch can he be?

First, he will not have a compliant Democrat Congress after the new year.

Second, if he were awake when the Dobbs decision was read he would know that the USSC has declared that absent a Constitutional Amendment, the Feds have no role in abortion. Any Federal law as he describes it would be unconstitutional.

Third, if he hadn't been sleeping during the past fifty years he would know that the formulation of Roe v Wade - overruled by Planned Parenthood v Casey - was that the "right" of abortion only existed (under Roe) during the first trimester. During the second Trimester the State could regulate it, and during the third trimester, the kid could not be killed unless coming to term would seriously harm the health of the mother.

Does that sound familiar? That's basically the "heartbeat" law that half of the Red states are working toward right now!

So is he an idiot or does he assume that everyone hearing him is an idiot? It is one or the other.

I don't know if this is true or not. Abortion is no longer a constitutional right, but does that necessarily mean that the Congress can't make it a lawful choice under certain circumstances? I am not sure about that, but at this point such a law would require 60 votes in the Senate as long as the filibuster exists, and of course pass the House and be signed by the prez. So, really it is a moot point for now cuz this Congress cannot and IMHO will not pass such law. And Biden knows that unless the democrats can keep their House and Senate majorities and get 50+ votes in the Senate to abolish the filibuster, the next Congress won't or can't do it either. So, he's out there trying to help his party get elected, which is his right. Every president does that for the mid-terms.

I don't believe that enough people realize how close we came to a one-party, totalitarian rule in this country. If Manchin and Sinema had not stepped up and denied the effort, the democrats would've abolished the filibuster last year and this country would be forever changed for the worse IMHO. What if the democrats enlarged the Supreme Court and packed it with 4 progressive liberal judges? What if they federalized election laws so everyone in this country could vote wherever and whenever they wanted to, hether they were a US citizen and eligible or not? Would we ever see another GOP president or Congress? NO.
