It's a social philosophy issue. No responsible governor tells people to stop wearing masks. Miss's governor says the opposite - wearing masks limits the spread of covid, so people should wear masks. BUUUUTTTTTT

When does a government have a legit power to force people to wear masks? I'd say the power comes when it is necessary to protect the integrity of the entire healthcare system, i.e. to keep medical personnel from being overwhelmed. Cities, certainly in Miss, have a power to still tell people they have to wear masks. That's not unreasonable because some cities are not seeing the same decrease in infection rates as more rural areas. Businesses have a power to not sell stuff to people without masks, because their workers will get sick and people like won't buy their stuff. Nursing homes aren't letting unmasked folks in. Schools don't have to let unmasked or unvaccinated kids in. States can mandate students going to public schools get vaccinated, because they protect all kids.

Dems seem (to me) to see a govt having power to decide what is reasonable. At least 25% of people are assholes with no respect for anyone but themselves. Personally I don't see a govt power to keep everyone from being an asshole.

But the question is whether numbers go up now mandates are 'relaxed." I'm sure they will go up here in Miss, but that may not be the real issue. So long as the hospitals are not overwhelmed again ... and they were overwhelmed down here with people with car wrecks couldn't get intensive care beds that they needed ... the SOCIETY as a whole will be fine.
