Republicans in Alabama go proactive to prevent Dem takeover

Horrified by the Democratic conquest of statewide offices in neighboring Georgia, Alabama Republicans are revamping their own division to assure their Republican governor will have majority control.

AL.com reports the Alabama Senate passed a bill Thursday that expands the state’s Public Service Commission from three positions to seven — but with the Republican state governor having the power to pick four members, giving the governor a clear majority on board decisions.

The commission monitors and approves rate increases from state power and gas companies, which hold monopolies in their representative territories. Proponents of the new law claim the expansion is all about keeping customers’ rates low.

“The people are fed up with paying high power rates,” said Sen. Clyde Chambliss, R-Prattville. “We know we have inflation. We know things go up over time. And if our inflation for power was similar to our neighboring states, I don’t think we’d be talking about this today.”

The timing seems odd considering the state of Alabama currently ranked 28th lowest in power rates in 2024.

However, it makes more sense when considering that Democrats are ransacking PSC elections in the neighboring state of Georgia. Democrats delivered “a 26-point rout” in two usually low-profile races for the Georgia Public Service Commission last year.

It's good to see the gop in at least one state being proactive in fighting the dems so they don't end-up like Virginia.

They should send out their "newsletter" to the rest of the still red states.

We can't predict what gas prices will be in November.
And I don't see dissatisfaction with immigration policy at all. I see enthusiasm for getting the illegals the hell out of here.
Yes, the ruling party traditionally doesn't do well. The GOP has its work cut out for them.
But as I've said repeatedly here, they need to nationalize this election as Gingrich did in '94 and go over the 80-20 issues the Democrats are on the wrong side of over and over, from defending illegals to sex change operations, etc. And the TSA/DHS budget battle does NOT help the Democrats at all and needs to be pointed out repeatedly. People waiting in line for 3 hours to board a plane will piss off a whole lot of people real quick and that's 100% on the Democrats.

That's your party's territory. They've done it for a century at least in big cities like New York and Chicago. They stole the 1960 election.
And, of course, the 2020 election.
The economy will undoubtedly tell the tail as it almost always does. The war will have an effect, depending upon where we are at that point.
I know the path to Republican victory and I've already state it: make it a national election and show how on issue after issue after issue, the Democrats are completely out of touch with regular Americans.

I'd put nothing pass the vile dems if they ever see total power again. Look at what they are doing in Virginia.

That said if the gop gets shed of the filibuster I'd be OK with them stacking SCOTUS with some people that have some commonsense about them....I doubt it will happen.

Yep. And that's fine when both parties are adults and are trying to make the country better.
