Biden Gives Federal Workers Largest Pay Raise In Over 40 Years

Well, another way of looking at it is this: federal pay lags far behind the private sector. Government workers, in 2022 earn 27.54 less in wages than private sector counterparts.

I am not buying it.

Average federal government employee salary in 2022 was $80k

In 2022, Average US worker salary was $63k...

And the feds are getting 10% more come January (1.046 x 1.052).

The salary studies which claim federal workers are paid less don't include total compensation package and do some weird calculations to adjust the numbers, like this one.

The salaries I see at the USAJobs website look competitive to me. Janitors, clerical workers, engineers.

The people at the fed I work with make about what we do (a little more), but they do have to live near the DC Beltway unless they telecommute :).

I can't believe all those federal workers would stick around for that lousy pay out of the goodness of their hearts. :)

That said, it's highly variable. Lots of high-level feds go on to make a lot more money in private industry.

Jim

Biden signed an EO to give federal workers an average pay raise starting in January of 5.2%

This is after a 4.6% pay raise in 2023...

"Despite the fact that federal agencies are still operating without a full budget, Biden’s order cements the pay raise for 2024. Unless Congress quibbles with Biden’s figure in another CR or in the Financial Services and General Government bill, the pay raise defers to the President’s authority."

Most federal workers still work from home part time...

Meanwhile, social security recipients will get a 3.2% cost of living adjustment in 2024 while the costs of food, shelter and energy have skyrocketed.

The costs of food, shelter and energy haven’t “skyrocketed” this year. Energy and food costs have declined since last year.

Biden sure is good at spending other people's money. The bloated fed balloons further.

SS recipients received a 10% increase last year but inflation has declined substantially.

Most federal workers do not work from home. That ended after Covid.

Close, but it was 8.7%

Most federal workers do not work from home. That ended after Covid.

The link in the OP says that most (54%) still work from home at least one day per week, and 14% do it every day.

Because most of them worked in the wealth creation sector of the economy producing what the Guv'mint takes from them to give to those in redistribution, such as guv'mint workers.

Insult to injury is Biden has spent his post college life/careers in Guv'mint employ, mostly elected, but all living off the taxpayers. Plus his fees for grift and graft. In short the guy hasn't any experience or clue on how to run a for profit business venture (that doesn't involve crime).

Meanwhile Nation's Guv'mint Deficits and Debt keep skyrocketing and most in the private (wealth making) sector aren't seeing raises of this scale yet will be paying for such through increased taxes and further devaluation and inflation.

Should anyone want to see some numbers, and might know how to understand them;

Those workers also make sure you get your social security check, ensure the safety and integrity of the food you buy, work with farmers to improve agricultural practices and conduct research to treat rare diseases that aren’t profitable enough for big Pharma.
Sounds great. Think anyone will buy it?

I worked in the federal government as a civilian for 20 years.

That's why what you just said is so funny.

And workers like you who don’t believe in what they are doing are what give Federal workers a bad name

What a complete load of bullshit, meanwhile the private sector continues to struggle and layoffs are ongoing, and taxes keep going up to support this bloated piece of shit government.
