Biden: Food Shortages "gonna be real."

""With regard to food shortage, yes we did talk about food shortages, and it's gonna be real," Biden said during a press conference at a NATO summit in Brussels, Belgium, following a meeting with other world leaders.

Let the mass panic begin!

You know, he was not talking about shortages here, right?

I'll just grow more at home.

Great opportunity for the American farmers. The USDA is going to allow more crops to be grown on the land that has been set aside for the CRP program. This is the very reason we have the program, so that the crop land is there when needed. It will be a banner year for the heartland grain farmers.

If 1 in 8 Americans were food insecure in 2020 before 8% inflation...how bad do you think it is today?

How much worse will it be when price jump even more in the grips of a worldwide food shortage?

"What is Food Insecurity? In 2020, an estimated 1 in 8 Americans were food insecure, equating to over 38 million Americans, including almost 12 million children. [1] The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) defines food insecurity as a lack of consistent access to enough food for an active, healthy life. [2]"

Link.

38 million is TEN PERCENT of the population.

Big Ag operations maybe. A lot of farmers have had trouble getting their goods to market due to labor shortages, lack of drivers, etc. Not sure many of them are willing to risk too much expanding their operations until the other crap gets sorted out.

This is the joy of grain farming, one guy and his tractor can easily deal with a few hundred acres. I work with family operations of a few thousand acres and they can do it all with just the dad and the adult children.

An article I read yesterday said that now seven agriculture lobbying organizations have petitioned to allow the farmers to plant on land in the CRP program and it is being pushed by a some members in Congress from the Ag states. It is a no brainer so hopefully this Admin will not fuck it up....this is the exact reason the program exist.

They just need to grow crops with no fertilizer or water, and all will be fine.

GLORIOUS Peoples ruler Quid Pro Biden brings new prosperity to those who learn to live with less.

In regard to food shortages, yes we did talk about food shortages and it’s gonna be real,” Biden said. “The price of the sanctions is not just imposed upon Russia, it’s imposed upon an awful lot of countries as well, including European countries and our country as well,

Hey, maybe you can lie it into the cornfield, Herr Stupidfuck?

Well the program exists for the opposite reason---so the land isn't farmed to help mitigate soil runoff and provide habitat for wildlife. The south is full of fallow tobacco fields now that are not part of the program. If the farmers could make a living with it, they would be by now.

In this Biden is correct. But this isn’t breaking news. Myself, and others have been warning you for quite a while about this eventuality.

Yes, when the land is not needed they are paid to let it sit idle for the reason you listed. They are also paid so that they will not sell it off since it is not making them any money, thus decreasing the amount of available land for farming.

But when there is a need for more cropland like there is now, the land was meant to be used and then when the need decreases it goes back to CRP land.
