Not all blends of crude can be used for all refining needs. It also might be cheaper to import to certain parts of the country.
The worldwide accepted definition of the term is basically, "situations in which domestic energy production is adequate to “meet our own energy needs without depending on any foreign sources.” As defined by Nixon decades ago.

What did Biden think was going to happen when he asked OPEC to increase production? Incredibly, the number of drilling permits on Federal lands actually increased in the first 6 months despite Biden-Harris pushing to cut permits and expansion. Also, whether the Biden Harris sheeple like it or not, killing Keystone sent a message to the markets that US is more dependent on foreign oil.

No President wants to be in the position of asking the most geopolitically unstable region to increase oil production when the US is experiencing inflation, rising gas prices, and the bullshit green energy technology you have been pitching is no where near ready to support the US economy the way oil does.

We are still importing 7-8 million bpd. Trump decided to punish Venezuela so now we buy from Russia as well as Canada and Mexico.

$71.32 is a good price for US producers. They can afford reserve mgmt as well as exploration and drilling. OPEC is going to increase production by 400,000 bpd so that will likely bring the price basket down to $65-68.

Gas jumped up here by 10 cents over night. Groceries are higher, Afghanistan is turning into a mess, the US/Mexican border is getting worse, Covid-19 is rising all across the United States and it seems the Dems are hell bent on telling us all is going well.
