The latest in shaming people is 'thin privilege'. If you are not fat, it's probably assumed that you are automatically a bigot against fat people and need to learn to be more tolerant. It's much the same as white people being automatically considered racist.
I wonder if that means Michelle's lunch program is going away because that is so intolerant of overweight kids. Seriously, I thought this was an epidemic that needed to be addressed straight away. Now the experts are saying it's just not likely that many will ever lose the weight and we should stop forcing the diet culture on them. While students might cheer that because the school lunches would be more appetizing, I wonder why parents don't feed their children the right way from the start. Changing habits is difficult and you can't force people to do that. It didn't stop Michelle from trying. The kids probably go home and eat twice as much to make up for the crappy lunch that got tossed in the garbage.
Parents should know better than to allow junk food and fattening crap, but they do it anyway. Schools can't change the habits taught at home. I think doctors should spend more time talking to new parents and warning them of the dangers of a poor diet from the start and try to prevent some bad habits from forming.
As it is, parents who allow young children to eat what they want are setting them up for a lifetime of health issues.
The problem laid out in the article is that fat people are not accepted like thin people and they even mentioned sexual preference. So, if you're not attracted to the overweight girls in your class, you are guilty of fat oppression. I don't want to know how people will have to atone for that sin.
And you probably should apologize for your thin privilege.
While people should accept themselves for who they are and people shouldn't judge based on appearance, losing weight is generally a healthy decision.
Meanwhile, those without a weight problem should own up to the fact that they are privileged and maybe pay some reparations or something. If you an overweight neighbor, just write them a check for now.
If you're white and thin, you may just want to wave a white flag already. Or are white flags racist, too? Damn, it's hard to keep up with the ridiculous expectations from the left. Just being born white and being healthy is all it takes to become a target of the left these days. You don't even have to do anything bad, just be white, thin, and work for a living.
"Tovar’s talk, entitled "Dispelling Myths: Fat, Fatphobia, and Challenging Social Stereotypes," was designed to help students understand that "fat phobia" is rampant in a "white, heteronormative society" that is looking to actively oppress people with larger body types. Society’s bias against fat people is, apparently, a form of bigotry and discrimination, evident in everything from sexual preferences to the size of seats on public transportation.
She even, reportedly, compared society’s anti-fat culture to so-called "rape culture," and chastised society for its obsession with what she termed "thin privilege."
According to Tovar, the students, who study public health (at one of the top 10 schools for public health), shouldn’t push people they deem overweight to shed pounds, even if it’s better overall for health. "Weight loss is not a realistic goal for most people," she said, declaring that exercise and diet are "social constructs." She implored her audience to "lose hate, not weight" and rebel against "diet culture." (Diets are, of course, just a tool of the hetero-normative Patriarchy.)"
