Some news agencies have been throwing around terms like "No Man Left Behind" as if they have a clue what it means.
In general it refers to the circumstances on the battlefield and in regards to the desire not to have fellow soldiers dead or alive fall into the hands of the enemy.

It doesn't mean "Negotiate with terrorists for the release of more terrorists in order to get me back when I wandered of base and got captured".
Not that I would not support more efforts to gain the release of captured prisoners during a war ... But more likely embrace the opportunity to kill more terrorists in the process.

Our current President seems to enjoy the idea of appeasing our enemies a lot more than killing them.
He sets a dangerous precedent in suggesting the capture Americans will gain the release of terrorists.
He has no idea that it is also the obligation of the prisoner to attempt to escape ... Not sit around in their hut drinking tea and making home movies.

I would argue that precedent was already set when Ronnie Raygun traded arms for hostages in 1986.

to the point, though, most POW's make these kinds of "Hostage Videos", so i'm not getting upset about that.

Instead, they promoted him- TWICE. Now, you might excuse the promotion from PFC to SPC, you get that for merely in-taking oxygen if you have enough promotion points. But promoting him from SPC to SGT?

The Army might also have to answer some embarassing questions, like why they kept this guy in a hot zone when he was clearly losing his shit.

From the reports coming from his unit, he is most definitely a deserter. His unit despises him and wants him to face military justice. The problem is that the Half-Breed King will never allow that to happen.

I promise you this: in this illegal "trade", we paid far too high a price to get this scum back.

Bear in mind....putting aside the "deserter" thing.....he walked away from his fellow soldiers. The bottom line is he decided to NOT be there when he was supposed to be there and not be able to assist his fellow soldiers in a combat area if they needed him to.

Furthermore, he made a conscious decision to walk alone and without any type of protection in an environment that he knew was dangerous.

In other words, he made his own bed.

And now we have released known killers so he can no longer have to sleep in the bed he made.

NO, we released enemy combantants we no longer have any rationalization for holding.

This is the problem with Gitmo. It neither qualifies as a prison (giving its inmates all the rights under the US Constitution) or a POW Camp (giving its inmates all the rights of the Geneva Conventions.)

Our rational for holding them was questionable, at best. It becomes completely untenable once hostilities end at the end of the year.

The fact the solider's who served with Bergdahl don't speak highly of him is telling as for the risk of giving these five Taliban back were giving back five men who were important in making the Taliban the main power in Afghanistan for years and helped turn it into a safe haven and training ground for Al-Qaeda something it is highly likely they will try to do again.
