You're right about the procedure. Wrong about trashing the victim at this point.Just curious but where do they teach those law enforcement procedures? The guy was arrested because he failed a sobriety test. He resisted arrest by refusing to be handcuffed. Then he attacked the officers and took a weapon. Pointed the weapon at one of the officers who had no idea of the type of weapon. Then he ran. 5 offenses in less than a minute. The officers acted on instinct and reflexes. Therefore they were correct and I am sure alcohol won't be the only thing found in his system. Alcohol alone doesn't give someone the sudden brute strength to overpower 2 healthy cops who had him face down. Maybe one of them should have knelt on his neck.He ATTACKED the cops, what were they supposed to do let him attack cops with no reaction?![]()
Man's death after police shooting outside Wendy's in Atlanta sparks investigation and protests
Atlanta police were called to the Wendy's for a report of a man asleep in the drive-thru. The incident ended with an officer shooting the man, who later died after surgery.www.cnbc.com

That's no reason to shoot him fool. Why are police drawing weapons and shooting people over petty bullshit? Police are out of control.
He was drunk or on drugs therefore its a DUI or DWI. He then attacked cops which is a felony![]()

Couldn't you ask though why did they have to arrest him? Why not just call his family to come and pick him up so that he can get home safely? From what I have been reading and hearing he was not causing any problems leading up to that and was just asleep in a car.
Even though he wasn't driving and was apparently sleeping? Doesn't this situation kindof hit on the ongoing topic of how the police should respond to calls? For me personally this is one of those situations where nobody has been harmed and clearly someone needs some help and so why not have the moment lend itself to an act of kindness by the police by helping him get home instead of the standard method, some might say out-dated method, of going straight towards arresting?
he fell asleep in a fast food drive thru blocking other customers. Police were called, the man fails a field sobriety test, he refuses to be arrested, then starts physically fighting the cops and manages to get one of their tazers, then runs, turns, points it at them. What the fuck do you guys expect cops do today, join hands and sing Kumbaya ?
I'm not sure what all they said to him during the early moments but in my personal opinion they could have let him know that they were there to help him and not to harm him. They could have had him get out of the car and wait inside for a family member to come pick him up while his car was left overnight in the parking lot of the Wendy's. Even if they didn't do that and still did the field sobriety test and the handcuffing once he started to resist and run away they could have let him go since they had his car and could have easily found out where he lives and could have arrested him at another time after he sobered up. I'm just giving alternatives. Alternatives that emphasize de-escalation.
We were not there so we will never know. They could have not shown up at all too, right? There are a thousand "what if's". But the facts are this. He resisted arrest and took a cop's weapon. You don't get to do that.
That is true. However, I would say that once he started to run with the taser the officers could have stopped the pursuit and arrested him at another time. Just my personal opinion.

You do realize that once a perp gets your taser and tasers you he can easily remove your firearm and use it against you, right? He pointed the taser at the cop.
It was a good shoot.
The guy was running away and was NOT going to get the cops firearm. That was in the cop's hand.
I switched from The Good LiarNot out here I won't. I won't be the only one defending my property. This is a rural red area and we have stand your ground laws in Georgia. Guess I need to switch off The Shawshank Redemption and turn the news on.Be carful blacks are lawless now you can’t arrest them, and if you protect your self you will arrested anyway.I just got home 45 minutes ago and ain't turned on the news yet and since FB loves censorship I don't have an account so all I know is the chief of police resigned after some thug was shot by police. I live 50 miles northeast of Apelanta. I hope it spreads this way.

Get some experience as a cop in that situation and you would have done the same.

Well, he'd have to be arrested. States vary, and I don't know what they do in Georgia, but in Maine they haul you to jail to be booked.![]()

He was drunk or on drugs therefore its a DUI or DWI. He then attacked cops which is a felony
They responded by giving him a sobriety test which he failed and would have spent a few hours MAX in detox at the jail and more than likely released. HE escalated it by attacking the cops over a small misdemeanor crime. Really dumb on his part. I don't care if he was white, black, asian or hispanic he brought it on himself. He ATTACKED the cops, what were they supposed to do let him attack cops with no reaction?![]()

He was DRUNK. Drunk and irrational. And in today's climate, anyone of colour waking up being attacked by police has reason to fear for his life.
Drunk and irrational is no reason to shoot him. They had his car. They knew who he was. They can arrest him when he sobers up.

What we're seeing in Atlanta, up on that highway, is an act of war against the United States. In the video I posted above the local news anchors clearly state the highway blocking was planned. Those planners are enemy combatants and must be dealt with accordingly. IF this kind of chaos explodes in cities across the nation such sweeping unrest could not only devastate our already weakened economy but leave us vulnerable to foreign enemies as well. Dear President, the time to act is now.

I want to see somebody defend this bullshit.Link to come, watching live on TV. Black thugs are rioting and looting. Cops should quit..
Not sure the shooting was completely justified. The guy was running away and tried to fire the taser over his shoulder. Not much of a threat.
And they had his car and know who he is.
That’s a judgment a lot easier for you to make watching on a video than being there live having it happen to you
I agree. But when a suspect if running away, they are not an eminent threat.
They are when they fire a weapon at you while running away
That wouldn't happen to me. I would get fucking arrested for drunk driving. They would take my white ass to jail.![]()

The People could argue in court that the suspect had demonstrated that he was willing to shoot a cop, and that the cops did not know whether or not the suspect had a second unfired weapon that he might be willing to use, but I doubt if the jury would have bought that as justifiable homocide, in view of the fact that the tazer was no longer loaded at the time he was killed.
