Are You an Enemy of Liberty?

Are You an Enemy of Liberty?

Does your ideology require laws to aid certain classes of people over others?

Does your ideology believe that humans are inherently weak?

Does your ideology incentivize idleness through permanent welfare?

Does your ideology place more emphasis on victimization than hard work, talent, and intellect?

Does your ideology believe in top-down guesswork via central committees over bottom-up empiricism and common sense?

Does your ideology believe that only a strong state can create prosperity and human happiness?

Does your ideology believe that historical wrongs should be corrected?

Does your ideology believe the state does a better job of raising children than parents?

Does your ideology believe that wealth inequality must be solved by plundering from the rich to give to the poor?

Does your ideology believe utopian equality can be reached through tinkering with the law as if improving a food recipe?

Does your ideology believe that feelings are more important than truth?

Does your ideology believe that combining different peoples in a defined space will create peace and love?

Does your ideology want to rid society of offensive speech?

Does your ideology believe the free market should not be free?

Does your ideology believe it’s okay for the government to perform an action that citizens are forbidden from doing?

Does your ideology encourage or enable the most lazy part of you?

Does your ideology require the censorship of other ideologies for it to prosper?

Does your ideology believe past human traditions, rituals, and heuristics have no place in modern society?

If you answered yes to any of the above, you have chosen an ideology that obstructs another man’s property, pursuit of happiness, and ability to engage in commerce, all so that you may usher in your creative vision of what human society should be. Whether you see your ideology as just or not, there will be a fight when it encroaches on my liberty.

Are you a millionaire?

The only businesses that exploit are those which have been granted COERCIVE MONOPOLY STATUS by the bureaucrats.

and with that remark you show your disregard for the working poor, how do you feel about collective bargaining? Bet you do not even see that as a right.

Americans have a right to freely associate.

You have a right to join a union.

And the employer has a right to hire NON-union.

.

Now here's the loaded question, does an employer have the right to terminate for attempted unionization or otherwise retaliate against such efforts? Retaliation is a direct assault on the freedom of association that you claim we all have.

I don't see why not. You should be able to terminate a worker for almost any reason you want. You can freely associate with anyone you want, however, it does nothing to your right of freedom of association if I fire you for your associations. To say otherwise denies me the freedom of association. If I found out one of my workers were attending klan rallies and burning crosses on someone's front yard, by your logic it should be illegal to terminate him. Get real!

Now I will take it a step further. An employer should have the right to make his employees sign a statement that they will not unionize as a condition of employment. Leftists decry the idea, however, they have no problems forcing workers to contribute to unions as a condition of their employment. The double standard is garbage and comes from the idea that "we know what's better for you more than you do."

The true test of one's appreciation of liberty is not the zeal with which they would protect the freedoms they appreciate for themselves but the diligence with which they would protect the rights of others, even those they might not agree with or even hate. We like to make a big deal about those rights outlined in the bill of rights but the appreciation of freedom should go further then that. There are a host of social freedoms that moralistic RW christian conservatives would just as soon destroy and a bunch of working class economic freedoms that big business republicans do not give a fuck about at all and are openly hostile to. When I hear these people preaching liberty I wonder what the hell they are talking about. Half of them want to make everything fun or sexually "immoral" illegal, the other half seem to think poverty stricken people are undeserving of the rights they would explode over losing and almost none of them are respectful of privacy or the freedom to not be unduly hassled by the cops. This is not to say that democrats are a whole lot better in practice but the activity of protecting these intangible rights of economic and social freedom has almost entirely fallen to them and all too often they compromise with conservative assholes to achieve Fascism lite, whoop-tee-doo.

I don't think the op is a repugnant.

Libertarians support the RIGHT of the taxpayers to keep THEIR hard earned money and to give it away VOLUNTARILY.

We also support any activity in which ADULTS partake VOLUNTARILY.

.

Sorry you guys fail the freedom test big time when it is big business vs. the little guy. You may not feel it is proper to protect our citizens from undue economic exploitation and abandonment but for everyday purposes it is one of the most important factors in anyone's feeling of being free.

Liberals/Progressives who expanded the government created the environment you speak of. If there is any lesson learned from past experiments in progressivism let it be that the larger the government the larger the corporatism, cronyism, and corruption. The more you try to control or the more you try to institute well intentioned programs you only get more influence to those with money. Conservatives didn't make that happen. Liberals/Progressives made that happen. This largely started under FDR when he threatened the courts and claimed that the "general welfare clause" grants the government license to do whatever it wants. And now your shocked that progressive politics and constitutional reasoning has lead to increased corporate influence? Sorry, you get no pass on that one. Every single policy that you can think of to help "the little guy" will only end in the same way as progressives have tried before you. Don't blame conservatives for the increased corporate influence due to the unrestricted power of government; blame liberals/progressives.

:D I knew the result...not that I care. This "ideology" puts the individual's selfish desires before the whole of society and that is wrong. Any ideology that allows another to become rich off the back and work of another is also wrong.

Gettin kinda tired of the zero sum fallacy.

Nope. That assumes you have a right to a job. Government can't interfere in your associations, but there's no reason an employer can't stipulate them as a condition of your employment.

Hence the leftist double standard. You can be forced to join a union as a condition of your employment whether you want to or not, however, it should be against the law to prevent someone from joining a union as a condition of their employment. They love the use of force when a man builds something they cannot. Without large quantities of liberty destroying force there can be no such thing as progressivism.

In the absence of an employment contract stipulating otherwise, yes.
