Are You a Conservative?

The definition of conservative didnt change, its just that most people calling themselves conservatives, arent conservatives. They have no problem with huge deficits, attacks on rights, etc. as long as their guy is doing it.
Just like liberal.
Which is basically EVERY single so called conservative since Coolidge.

There are social conservatives and there are fiscal conservatives. The former is all that has been elected in the past 100 years, the latter we have not had in the White House since a guy name Calvin was there.

Depends on how you define it. But today’s definition of conservatism is certainly different than it was a couple of decades ago. Here’s a clip describing the differences.

I'm usually not a fan of the legions of randos who turn a camera on themselves and slap their hot takes on YouTube, but he's largely correct. That could be because this is the channel for The Bulwark, which is a respected, right-leaning news source.

You nailed it...until that last sentence.

Today's "conservatives" (whether real or imagined) are first and foremost ANTI-liberal. They've been trained well to hate "the other"

My last sentence was just fine. You are a perfect example, as a matter of fact

Conservative used to mean fiscal responsibility, family values, a global foreign policy.

Todays Conservatives are cut taxes while not cutting spending, conspiracy theories and an assault on democracy.
No. They're willing and even eager to cut spending...but ONLY on things they consider or are told are liberal issues
