I consider them sports.

There is a strange sport from Scotland - its on ice I think and you roll a thing that resembles a tea kettle across the ice and hit these colored things around.
There doesn't appear to be a goal and I never figured out how on earth it is scored but apparently it will be in the Olympics - or maybe it is already?
It also has a weird name.

curling, it is picking up alot of followers here in the states . They have leagues for it up in Minn and Wisconson like normal folks have bowling leagues. It appears to me that watching paint dry would be much more fun.

I'm in the mood to upset the hornets nest.

Ladies and gentleman NASCAR is not a sport. These are not athletes. These are beer and moonshine guzzling hillbillies who just drive a little faster than all of us.

I myself would like to take a FEW laps around some of the super-speedways but no way am I going try 500 miles bumper to bumper at 200 plus mph. both mental and physical stamina are required to race at the top level. that and being a bit on the nutso side. But I say its a sport, much like being a jockey on a bigass horse.

golf - Yes, it's a sport.
bowling - Yes, it's a sport.
worlds strongest man - Well, he's not a sport. But I assume you meant the competition which is certainly a sport.
poker - No.
hunting/fishing - They are sports.
nascar or race car driving - Yes, they are sports. Anyone who doesn't think so is kidding themselves. Car racing involves reflexes, strength, thinking and strategy - what the hell else is there in a sport?
horse racing - Yes. Again, see above reasons.
rodeo - Hell yes.
anything from the x games - since I don't know what they are, I'll have to defer.

Them's fightin' words! :)

Actually, I agree with jon forward... it does take a lot of skill, both physical and mental, to drive at 150-200 mph at a distance of inches.

I'd had a few cocktails already yesterday morning when I posted it and I will agree it takes a certain amount of skill to do that but it is not a natural talent in anyway. Any one of us could do the same with a little practice, its learned unlike being able to throw a 95 mph fastball. Plus its like watching paint dry.

golf Yes
bowling Yes
worlds strongest man No.
poker No.
hunting/fishing Hunting is a sport - it's just that the other team doesn't know they are playing. Fishing, on the other hand, is a practical joke: "C'mere little fishy! here's a NICE WORM!!.....SURPRISE!!! A metal HOOK when thru your HEAD!! HAHA!!
nascar or race car driving Yes
horse racing Yes
rodeo Yes
anything from the x gamesYes

nascar or race car driving-yes

horse racing-yes, both horses and jockeys are great athletes

rodeo-yes

Sport n. 1. an athletic(especially outdoor) activity. 2. any game or pastime , an outdoor pastime such as hunting or fishing.

This is the definition from the Oxford American Dictionary .

golf - Played by the guys and gals on tour it is not only physically demanding but also one of the most mentally demanding of any sports . There are plenty of former football, baseball , and hockey players that now play on a celebrity tour that claim that a 3 foot putt to win is equal to or harder than anything they did in their original sport. Charles Barkley is a great example of this , world class athelete that looks retarded trying to swing a golf club .I have played for 40 years and have caddied at a few US Opens and the 86 Masters , it is very difficult.
Obviously anyone can ride around in a cart and hit a ball around but that isn't playing golf .

bowling - same thing when you are competeing at the pro level or even amateur.

NASCAR and auto racing - the fastest I have ever driven was 140 in my brothers Porsche and I needed a change of underwear after . Try going 60 mile an hour faster with others all around you , heat , pressure to win not just stay alive , and the knowledge that if you or anyone around you screws up you could end up in a fireball rolling down the track .These guys have balls .

horse racing - basically the same as auto racing but you are unprotected on top of a ton of solid muscle and a very small brain . I don't know how these little guys can sit down on the saddle without squishing the giant balls they possess .

rodeo - same as above only these guys and girls wrestle with calves and ride horses and bulls with ropes tied to their nuts , these people are crazy.

strongest man - an athletic competition

poker - no

x games - an athletic competition that also takes a rediculous amount of sack size .

hunting / fishing - depends on the activity , if you are sitting in a tree stand getting drunk waiting for a deer that you have been feeding for a couple months to show up for more food so you can blow it away with a 1000 dollars worth of gear . . . not much sport there . If you are in Africa on their turf trying to hunt down a black panther at night , that would be a sport .

All of these are individual efforts more or less . If you have to play on a team for it to be considered a sport then none of these qualify .I like individual effort myself , I'll watch track before most team sports .
