AR or shotgun ???

For home defense ??
I hope this is the correct forum

I am not into pistols
I need a weapon as follows

1)very accurate and easy to shoot
2) it cannot penetrate walls and harm neighbors
3) very rarely Jams and super easy to clean
4) very low maintenance
5) not too much kick
6) can take out several “ pests “


I fired a .40 and it was a disaster. Too much kick
I read the 9 mm Has weak stopping power
I did ok on a super heavy revolver of .38

I'm an advocate of using a shotgun for home defense loaded with #4 shot.
Too many people purchase a high powered pistol or rifle like the AR, not realizing if you miss the intruder the bullets will easily go thru the wall(s) and could kill a family member, or even a next door neighbor.
Also, if it's the middle of the night and you are jolted awake by the front door being kicked in. It's far easier when you're still foggy brained to just point the shotgun and blast the intruder. ...

It's an "OK" forum for this discussion.. But most of the members use "The Garage" for gun threads...

Shot can STILL penetrate walls.. Into a neighbors' unit potentially... Much easier for home defense if you don't need to run off coyotes or defend your business in a riot..

I have 2 guns. A .380 pistol which I carry concealed, and a 12 gauge shotgun, with OO buckshot. Each has their pluses and minuses. The .380 at further than 50 feet, is weak in stopping power, but is pretty powerful at close range. Also, it holds hollow point bullets, which remain inside the target person, and are damaging to them. Another good thing about pistols, is that they are good when you are inside the house. They are maneuverable, and don't bump into things so easily like rifles and shotguns do.

Shotguns are good for their stopping power. One shot and the enemy is out of the picture. They also have a good deterrent capability. Just the sight of one is enough to make a rioter/looter/arsonist back off, quickly.

9mm doesn't have much kick, but it penetrates. 9mm ball ammo goes through a lot more than people might think.

Probably go through 2 people with no problem.
A shotgun is better for home defense.

We bought a 32 pistol for my mother n law when she had problems in her old home......less kick.

AR is LOUD! The concussive blast from shooting one indoors could stun you.
Pistols and shotguns, no.
20 gauge is 9mm-level recoil, IMHO.
Almost nothing.

I recommend a .410 shotgun built with an AR style, for you.
