I wouldn't, all independent AV testers don't rate them very high. If you're using Windows 10 then Defender will work even better, 5 years ago I would not have recommended Defender but it has come a long way and now ranks up there with the best. Besides it's built into Windows so no need to buy another anti virus utility unless you want to.

I wouldn't. There are lots of free programs out there that do the same stuff, some of them may be onboard your OS or browser. You just have to remember to run some of them as opposed to having a single interface. Don't use outlook or thunderbird, don't click on links or even open stranger emails or not quite right looking emails from friends that just have a link in them, and avoid downloading from "free" movie or music sites and you are probably closing in on 90% safe.

With a modern Windows OS, you don't need anything in the way of anti-virus etc.
Use adblocker addons with your browser, and don't click on junk and you will be perfectly fine
