Actually they are very, very, very much the same.
The only difference is that for some people, their immune system freaks out and starts to destroy their healthy lung cells, for no reason, if they have covid instead of one of the other coronaviruses.

Drawing death data from civil registries and other sources, the report came up with three estimates for undercounts. The conclusion is that between 3.4 and 4.7 million more people died in that pandemic period than would have been predicted. That's up to 10 times higher than the Indian government's official death toll of 414,482.​

The raw data shows that the US has 5 times the rate of COVID cases, and 6 times the rate of covid deaths. They also have a much higher recover rate- US recover rate is 76% while the Indian recover rate is over 97%.
