And some people thought Joe McCarthy

. Democrats were in charge in the senate and HUAC was a democrat party operation. Senator Joe McCarthy wasn't even on a committee and had relatively little political power as a member of the minority but they blamed the whole unfortunate era of treating suspected communists harshly on a single republican. Such is the power of the media when they become the propaganda arm of a single political party. The system hasn't changed much in the 21st century except that communists are no longer perceived as a threat by democrats. Today democrats are holding HUAC type hearings that target conservatives and the media managed to blame Trump.

and as time wore on, we eventually found out that Senator Joe McCarthy was right
So was Orwell. He never would have believed a large group of people would ever read his books and use them as instructions though.

I doubt the founders of the country that wrote the COTUS could have imagined that weapons grade stupid people could be elected to congress, atheist sociopaths wouldn't be confined to asylums let alone end up controlling the judicial system, or that the press could be dominated by treasonous authoritarian collectivists.

What an idiotic thing to say.

Look up the Venona Project. Where the US were able to decrypt messages from the Soviet Embassy back home, many of which discussed their undercover intelligence sources in the US (spies).

Prominent among them was Harry White, who was in the Treasury Department. He denied the accusations by McCarthy, but later in the 1980's when the Venona project was declassified, it proved that he was indeed a Soviet informer. Indeed, a great many spies uncovered by Venona were either in the Army, or worked for the Army. Including the Rosenberg ring, and NKVD agent William Weisband.

So was Orwell.

I actually have a lot of respect for Eric Blair. An honest and devout Socialist, he was also unique in that he was also a strong anti-Communist. He actually went to Spain to fight in the Civil War, and left dejected as he realized that the Marxists had taken over and were not wanting to create a Socialist country, but a Communist one. He then went on during WWII to work with the British government during WWII, before he became an author.

And as a devout Socialist, he knew most of the players in the UK that were Socialists and Communists. He quickly became a kind of "back-door informer" to MI5, helping them vette people in the BBC and Government to see if they were actually Communists and not just Socialists. This became known as "Orwell's List", which was then incorporated into the BBS's "Christmas Tree Files", and was right far more often than it was wrong.

Have you ever heard of the CIA? No? Look it up.

As much as I respect Orwell for his literature, and his incredibly insightful criticism of communism, the fact that he remained devoted to the watered down marxists ideas of massive government and cradle to grave welfare reduces his esteem in my eyes. There is no degree of marxist dogma that is going to result in human progress. 11-12 billion individuals on this planet are in total completion with one another. Of course you have people content to sleep under bridges and beg for food, and you have people who will sleep for 4 hours a day and work their asses off for 60 years just to achieve the highest standards of living and accumulate wealth that is unimaginable to most people.

Communists are of course the greatest disease known in the universe. They're "human" fire ants. The most vacuous drones imaginable. Those who lead them are even worse. That's why exterminators always seek out the "queens" of malevolent insect hives such as WASPS and KILLER BEES.

Socialists on the other hand believe you can maintain some level of individual rights and achieve higher standards of living through effort, but at some point your success should be throttled out of "fairness". I reject marxism at every level. I reject authority that demands payment to "protect" me when it can not possibly do so, and regularly fails to accomplish even the most basic objectives a "government" is supposed to meet because representatives, even when popularly elected sell out their countrymen to nefarious interests.

But he was not a Marxist.

Contrary to what the Marxists want people to believe, both Socialism and Communism existed before old Karl the Bum started his mad scribblings. He and his movement simply tried to hijack all of it and claim that he created it all, and it could never exist without his writings and beliefs. However, not all Socialists believe that, and Eric was one of them.

Both Socialism and Communism were concepts dating back to before the French Revolution. However, Karl hijacked all of that, and tried to claim it was all his own invention. Which in over a century since then his moron believers have repeated over and over and ignored the actual facts. Marx no more created "Communism" than the United States invented "Democracy" or the "Republic". However, the US never tried to insist it invented them, unlike Marxists which insist that Karl created everything and perfected it.

But do not confuse the Socialists of the early 20th century with those of today. I think even they would reject most of what their movement has turned into, which is more akin to creating permanent classes based solely upon how much they can take from their government as opposed to trying to make things better themselves.
