What an idiotic thing to say.and as time wore on, we eventually found out that Senator Joe McCarthy was right
I missed him in my historical research ventures. Thanks so much for bringing this bit of history to the forefront. Sounds like Mr. Palmer had a handle on the darker side of the "Human Condition(human nature)."Palmer Raids - Wikipedia

So was Orwell. He never would have believed a large group of people would ever read his books and use them as instructions though.and as time wore on, we eventually found out that Senator Joe McCarthy was right

Do you know me or my education. Do you know my resources? What do you have to bring to a debate. I bet you can do nothing more than a google search.

Look up the Venona Project. Where the US were able to decrypt messages from the Soviet Embassy back home, many of which discussed their undercover intelligence sources in the US (spies).
Prominent among them was Harry White, who was in the Treasury Department. He denied the accusations by McCarthy, but later in the 1980's when the Venona project was declassified, it proved that he was indeed a Soviet informer. Indeed, a great many spies uncovered by Venona were either in the Army, or worked for the Army. Including the Rosenberg ring, and NKVD agent William Weisband.

As much as I respect Orwell for his literature, and his incredibly insightful criticism of communism, the fact that he remained devoted to the watered down marxists ideas of massive government and cradle to grave welfare reduces his esteem in my eyes. There is no degree of marxist dogma that is going to result in human progress. 11-12 billion individuals on this planet are in total completion with one another. Of course you have people content to sleep under bridges and beg for food, and you have people who will sleep for 4 hours a day and work their asses off for 60 years just to achieve the highest standards of living and accumulate wealth that is unimaginable to most people.I actually have a lot of respect for Eric Blair. An honest and devout Socialist, he was also unique in that he was also a strong anti-Communist. He actually went to Spain to fight in the Civil War, and left dejected as he realized that the Marxists had taken over and were not wanting to create a Socialist country, but a Communist one. He then went on during WWII to work with the British government during WWII, before he became an author.
And as a devout Socialist, he knew most of the players in the UK that were Socialists and Communists. He quickly became a kind of "back-door informer" to MI5, helping them vette people in the BBC and Government to see if they were actually Communists and not just Socialists. This became known as "Orwell's List", which was then incorporated into the BBS's "Christmas Tree Files", and was right far more often than it was wrong.
Have you ever heard of the CIA? No? Look it up.
Very right, almost fascist right wing.

Socialists on the other hand believe you can maintain some level of individual rights and achieve higher standards of living through effort, but at some point your success should be throttled out of "fairness". I reject marxism at every level. I reject authority that demands payment to "protect" me when it can not possibly do so, and regularly fails to accomplish even the most basic objectives a "government" is supposed to meet because representatives, even when popularly elected sell out their countrymen to nefarious interests.
