At this point the prosecutor is hoping for one partisan juror to hang the jury. it's amusing, that's what the defense hopes for when it has a bad case. If he gets a hung jury, there is no way the DA will retry the case, he has no evidence of any criminal activity on the part of Rittenhouse. At least with a hung jury there is a chance the DA and ADA won't get sued into poverty by Rittenhouse. If Rittenhouse wins, he will easily win lawsuits against everyone involved, the media and possibly even the President. Presidents have no business making statements about ongoing investigations or criminal trials, Obama set a very bad precedent and, as usual, Biden has followed it.

There are 17 or 18 jurors...12 are selected at random and they get to vote...if the jury is hung they can replace juror(s) with others to resolve the issue.

That's not the way it works. Once the jury begins deliberations the jury members are locked in place unless there is misconduct. If that happens, the offending juror is dismissed, an alternate is seated and deliberations begin all over again. Jurors can't be dismissed to break a hung jury. A hung jury ends the trial leaving the DA the option to retry the case if he thinks he can change the outcome, but it's a whole new trial with a brand new jury.
