American Public Education is Failing...and Getting Worse Every Year

Start by fixing all of society's problems, then get back to me.
People are giving their ideas. Why don't you participate in that discussion instead of kicking sand.

Almost all of the senators and congressmen, even on the GOP education hating side, graduated from elite schools and send their kids there.

But, by all means, do not send your MAGA kids to colleges and especially elite colleges.

The world needs ditch diggers too.

You ever wonder why they say one thing and do another? Yea, I didn’t think so. Stay in school and you would.

American academic scores have been trending down for over a decade, accelerating significantly due to pandemic disruptions and long-term pre-COVID declines, particularly in reading. Key drivers include learning loss, school budget issues from the Great Recession, and widening achievement gaps, with only minor signs of recovery in math.

Key Points on Academic Decline
  • Long-Term Trend: Scores were falling well before 2020, not just as a result of the pandemic.
  • Major Drivers: Disruptions to schooling, family economic instability, and potential structural issues in education.
  • Subject Areas: Reading has shown little sign of recovery, while math shows minor improvements.
  • Impact: The declines have led to wider achievement gaps.

Never contradict Unk, he will filibuster until you give up.

Why don't you offer a rebuttal instead of sticking your fingers in your ears like a dumb monkey.

Because he is a shitlord. He will flame, troll, lie, filibuster, quote himself, and make dozens of inane, no-content one-line posts for weeks.

And YOU will post this ^^^ over and over again.

Because he doesn't discuss anything. He simply postwhores endlessly-his entire LIFE is this forum.

Which worthless degree do you have? How much debt are you in for your degree in queer African literature?

I made it clear that some public schools are great. The one in my neighborhood is, even with a strong CBU. The main reason is that there are 1.4 college degrees per household in this district.

The public school board in our area covers several subdistricts, and the area within the greater distinct where I live garners some benefits private schools occasionally offer. There is a very large campus that contains everything from PK-12th grade.

Individual schools on the larger campus include Lower Elementary (PK- 2nd grade), Upper Elementary (3rd-5th grade). Middle School (6th-8th grade) and High School. Each individual school has its own library, recreational facilities, and athletic facilities. The High School has the same, includes introductory vocational training, AP opportunities, and athletic facilities that would put some colleges to shame that everyone shares at times, and that to some degrees are also open to the public.

The immediate community is an excellent and diverse mixture of the entire Northern section of the greater school district, has good tax base as well as active support from local businesses. The administration cares about what the parents think, work together in making sure the children are prepared for what is ahead of them from grade to grade, and none of the individual schools on the campus tolerate a whole lot of crap. Each grade year class is anywhere from 250- 300 children and growing.

The schools on that campus are all A or better (you can make an A+) according to the state's grading system. The school board that covers a larger area recognizes that campus is a benchmark for all their efforts throughout the greater school district. Any minority in the greater school district can choose to attend that campus complete with transportation if they are not satisfied with the schools provided in their immediate community, unless of course your child is Caucasian and just stuck in one of the other schools, as per Federal Department of Justice requirements who are still loosely covering our area since the 1960's.

The greatest problem we have, is helping children attending to understand when they leave the same huge campus where they have learned, played, competed, and grown to know just about everyone they know, that when they go to college and find out there is another really fucked up world out there that is more than just some "story" they see on television or the internet, they had better be ready for the culture shock. :auiqs.jpg:

Vote your way to success in your communities, stop waiting for others to fix everything, and know when it's time to make a change.

One in Economics. Another in History. I also have a Master's degree in business. From two of the finest Universities in America. Served me well catapulting me in to the tippy top earners. I paid off my debt within 3 or 4 years.

My son has a BA and a Doctorate. He's an MD. He has a lot of debt which he'll pay off in less than 5.

My other son is working on his BA. No debt.

All of us will enjoy Trump's top tier tax cut... ok maybe not my youngest yet... but the other two of us get nice breaks for being high earners. I want to thank you for voting for it. I didnt.

Education is the ticket to the middle class and a leg up on getting to the top 1%.

Proving yet again that success and failure can both be contagious and usually starts at home and in a family setting.
Schools are just the place where you learn to accent those, and can bust your ass in pursuit of either, while learning how to interact with others who will most likely make an excuse for everything if you let them and even teach you the "real value" of a participation trophy.

I Paid cash for my by Masters degree

I paid for my college degrees with the GI Bill and learned a hell of a lot more about the world, and what it takes to succeed, than anything restricted to just what I learned in public school and college. :auiqs.jpg:

Wouldn't recommend it for everyone though, because that shit can kill you, and if they are planning on being a "career victim" that is not going to work out too well for them.

Naah, he's just FOS.

Some people 'round here sure feel free to decide what degrees have worth or not.
It's quite simple.

It's also kind of interesting some of the things you can learn college not directly associated to the career you are pursuing, and simply the ability to broaden your horizons, adding a little depth to your understanding of everything.

Or used to be anyway, it's been a little while since I was there and they might be teaching something else by now.

Oh well, I wasn't just going to assume that, and his comment served my purpose anyway.

Working with what is on the table and finding anything of use in it goes further in my book, and whatever he says is of no consequence to me unless I can use it to accomplish something else.

Choosing proper goals is often a crucial part of success, although I cannot say that they always work out that well or as I intended.

The only schools I see turning out good students are Montessori's.

Sounds interesting and promising, somewhat similar to the open classroom I studied under in grade school. What better way to educate someone than to slant their training to capitalize on their own innate proclivities and inclinations early in life so they grow into a career for which they are naturally attracted to and skilled at.
