The problem cost shifting and monopolistic practices by the healthcare industry causing out of control pricing. The regulators have been captured.

You are so dumb regarding health care costs!
1) Doctors tell us they cause $850 billion a year in excess claims paid by insurance companies out of fear of lawsuits.
Proof that they do this is in this study!
http://www.jacksonhealthcare.com/media/8968/defensivemedicine_ebook_final.pdf

90% of physicians surveyed say they order $850 billion a year in wasted duplicate tests, referrals all out of FEAR of being SUED!
Physicians estimate the cost of defensive medicine in US at $650 to $850 billion per year.
--- Emergency medicine, primary care, and OB/GYN physicians are most likely to practice defensive medicine.
--- 79 to 83% of surgeons and OB/GYNs have been named in lawsuits.
"Physicians contracted by the federal government practice significantly less defensive medicine as they are protected against lawsuits by the
1946 Federal Tort Claims Act. "
-- BUT........Only 48% practice defensive medicine compared to 92% of non-government physicians.
Consider that fact that of the physicians interviewed 52% DID NOT practice defensive medicine!
Who were they? Doctors contracted by federal government!
WHY did these doctors NOT practice "defensive medicine"??? 1946 Tort reform!

The insurance companies don't care as they simple raise the premiums.
If lawyers' $270 BILLION a year income was taxed 10% as ACA taxes tanning salons, that $27 billion would provide $5,000 premium for each of the
less then 4 million true Americans that want and need insurance.
Simple fact.
So lawsuits are the main reason why it cost 3x more, adjusted for inflation, to have a baby now then it did in the 60s?

How the cost of giving birth in the U.S. has TRIPLED since 1996 to $9,775 - thanks to expensive fees for everything from an epidural to placenta removal

At the bottom of the link price transparency is being addressed. Why the huge delta? Is Maricopa Medical Center immune from lawsuits?

You dummy! It isn't ONLY lawsuits!
Ever hear of EMTALA??? Of course not you are a dummy.
Back in 1986 Congress thought they were being helpful to the uninsured and passed this law. Look it up and then you'll understand why hospitals
charge $3,000 or more for a CAT scan that actually costs and I've got the statistics to show it...less the $100 to perform...i.e. overhead salaries, etc!
Hospitals making nearly 3,000% markup!
And then you have idiots today doing what NOT one of us with common sense would do years ago!
Look at this and translate into increasing stupid claims filed by these idiots. And then who pays for them? Higher premiums dummy!

No, I said cost shifting and corruption in my original post. No need for the personal insults asshole.
Go back and read my post #10. I accept apologizes.
Care to address why is Maricopa Medical Center able to charge a much lower fixed price for childbirth than their competitors? If its not fraudulent billing practices by other hospitals what else could it be?
Why can't more hospitals operate like this with transparent pricing: Surgery Center of Oklahoma | Free market-loving, price-displaying, state-of-the-art, AAAHC accredited, doctor owned, multispecialty surgical facility in central OK.

Nah American business men aren't giving up their indirect bilking of the government through the failed system of healthcare in this nation.. Shall we say status quoe ?

Oh, they won't give up without a fight. But it's interesting to see how many of the "Sanders isn't a serious candidate" people have suddenly shifted to a genuine concern about a Sanders candidacy.

Not sure how old you are (but you're a fan of the Duke, and that's okay by me), but some of us know that what comes around goes around, and our day may - finally - have come.

:)

What day?

Make sure you go to the polls on November 8, 2016.

Sanders may not win, but he's changed the conversation.

No, people may shop around for the best service irrespective of price. Again, how do we pay for it and it still be a win, win?

. Deductions is how... Everyone who has an income in this nation has the amount deducted from that income. Even jailbirds can afford it because of the federal pool participated in. The only people that would get it free would be children. Mental patients would have the deduction taken from their government allowances as well. Anyone with a social security number besides children will pay for the insurance. Then we would be the good stewart's of the system by helping to keep the system from being abused along with government. When ever we are excluded, and are made mere slaves of the system, then the system becomes corrupted. We need to be respected not only as clients, but as important players in the game as well.

. Nope people can't do anything except go where the insurance company tells them to go, and that isn't always what's in the best interest of the patient.... A friend of mine has insurance on his wife, and she needed to see a back specialist, so she chose the best in the area, but the insurance carrier said nope you have to go here instead. So instead of correcting the problem, she had to settle for shots. It's the only thing the insurance would allow. Tex do you know what your talking about or asking about ?

As the death spiral of more hospitals that did as the hospital CEO said when asked how hospitals recover these "uninsured" costs?
"How do hospitals deal with the cost of the uninsured? Like any business, we pass it on to the paying customers!”
Florida Hospital Tampa 3100 East Fletcher Avenue Tampa, FL 33613
In 2011 they sent Medicare 1,362 claims for CAT scan no contrast.
Each claim averaged $3,463, i.e. what the hospital billed Medicare...
The hospital's ACTUAL COSTS to perform the CAT SCAN was $57 a mark up 5,975.44%
Consequently the billing of Medicare because of EMTALA of 6,000% over costs makes up their uncompensated expenses!
HOW STUPID!
These are real costs being passed on to the paying customers as the above CEO said!

Dummy you know nothing about health care finances.
We could at least start to shop around for real price discovery.

Yes such things must be fixed.. Sad is what it all is...

Will answer the poll above when I listen to the debate about the issue coming from the candidate that says it best when confronted about the issue.

While I'd love to be proven wrong, I don't see my original answer changing. Sanders is the only one with any credible plans to reform healthcare.

Bernie is for single payer - Medicare for all. I've read what I can find from Cruz on healthcare, but I haven't seen anything beyond the usual Republican "alternative", which just involved changing the individual mandate into tax incentives and getting rid of guaranteed issues. Basically giving the insurance companies everything they get with ACA with nothing in return.

Do you suggest that people quit living and live in a bubble to protect hospitals from going rogue on us ? If we had a card that could be used where we choose to use it, then wouldn't that put the free market system in check on bilking our government and we the tax payers out of our money ?
No, people may shop around for the best service irrespective of price. Again, how do we pay for it and it still be a win, win?

So let's take a look at what "insurance" is. Definition of any insurance is: a practice or arrangement by which a company or government agency provides a guarantee of compensation for specified loss, damage, illness, or death in return for payment of a premium.

How does a company determine the premium? Risk analysis done by professionals called "Actuaries".
So a $100,000 20 year term life insurance for a 40 year old smoker is $30.00 For a 49 year old: $60.00
Non-smoker: age 40 $15/month Age 49.. $25/month.
IT IS CALLED RISK ANALYSIS and what I've shown you is a very simple illustration of smoking as a health risk raises premiums.

So does that make sense that just a simple issue like smoking nearly doubles the cost as the "actuaries" having looked at the history of paying benefits
shows more deaths for a smoker versus non smoker.

Obviously for something more complicated as the above illustration takes IN considerably MORE risk variables...including what specialists were in the area of the woman's back issues. But of course grossly ignorant people don't comprehend these variables and bitch and moan when the simplest solution is
TORT reform would reduce dramatically health claim costs which in turn would reduce premiums.
PLUS ignorant people don't seem to understand health insurance premiums are regulated by states. All companies have to justify what is called the
Medical Loss Ratio (MLR) which is the percent of premium an insurer spends on claims and expenses . So if the $850 Billion a year in "defensive medicine" costs is reduced by 20% this $170 billion in savings would mean lower premiums. That simple.
Proof this would work is the 1946 Federal Tort Act that prevents doctors under contract with federal government can't be sued. Therefore those doctors
don't practice "defensive medicine" i.e. ordering duplicate tests,etc...
Do the same Tort reform for non-federal physicians would save billions of phony claims that the insurance companies simply pay.

Once again...ignorance on display!
How many people do you think are "uninsured" before Obamacare?
Obama lied to you when before ACA he said:
Obama sold ACA on the premise there were in his words: "I don’t have to explain to you that nearly 46 million Americans don’t have health insurance coverage today. In the wealthiest nation on Earth, 46 million of our fellow citizens have no coverage.”
BUT when you look at what constituted this "46 million"... here are the FACTS...
not made up numbers as Obama used to lie about and depended on as Gruber said the "Stupidity of the American Voter"....

1) 10 million Obama counted were not Americans... not citizens per the Census
Proof: Income, Poverty and Health Insurance Coverage in the United States: 2009 - Income & Wealth - Newsroom - U.S. Census Bureau
Now since you asked for more current data:
Although the flow of undocumented immigration to the United States has slowed in recent years, as of March 2010 there were still an estimated 11.2 million undocumented immigrants in the country.. http://content.healthaffairs.org/content/30/10/1997.full
AND NOT ONE of these 11.2 million illegal immigrants are to have any health insurance especially under Obamacare!
So that knocks at least according to the 2009 census 10 million from the 46 million he lied as calling them "Americans"!

2) 14 million that were Eligible for MEDICAID BEFORE ACA!
Obama failed to get 14 million people eligible for Medicaid enrolled. That's all that is needed. That leaves 22 million.
there was NO NEED for Obamacare to cover these 14 million all they need do is REGISTER!!!
http://coverageforall.org/pdf/BC-BS_Uninsured-America.pdf
But either Obama didn't know this which is gross incompetency OR he did and ignored to get Obamacare passed! HYPED the numbers.

3) Finally why should 18 million people under age 34 that make over $50,000 that DIDN"T WANT their employers coverage be FORCED to buy
something they don't want OR NEED?
Just to pitch to the idiots of America as Gruber said it took the "Stupidity of the American Voter" to pass there were NEVER 46 million that
were legal, or wanted health insurance and all needed to be done for 14 million was get them registered! That's it!
The fact is subtract that 42 million from 46 million and you come up with less then 4 million!

There NEVER were 46 million uninsured but less then 4 million that truly want and need health insurance.

But Obama is destroying health care financing to the degree that this is what the largest insurance companies now say.
The head of the third-biggest U.S. health insurer said he has “serious concerns” about whether or not Obamacare’s new markets are sustainable, echoing criticism from other top for-profit insurers.

“We continue to have serious concerns about the sustainability of the public exchanges,” Aetna Inc. Chief Executive Officer Mark Bertolini said on a call Monday while discussing the company’s fourth-quarter results. “We remain concerned about the overall stability of the risk pool.”

UnitedHealth has said that it will probably take about $1 billion in losses on Obamacare plans when 2015 and 2016 results are combined.
The company has that it should have stayed out of the market longer, and that it may quit the program in 2017.

Aetna CEO Has `Serious Concerns' About Obamacare Sustainability

Uh.. I think you meant that as a response to someone else.

Voters beware: Your favorite candidate can't do crap about the following unless s/he has BIG BRASS BALLS. (edit: I added Bush to the poll as an afterthought...something in my subconscious didn't bring the name "Bush" to mind when considering "a run for president in 2016"...lol..)

Obamacare was nothing but a supreme capitulation to lobbying blackmail/pressure that there be no public healthcare. The private insurance companies wanted to force poorer people to buy their product. They just retooled the "sliding scale" to equal the same cash inflow. There was no hurt felt by them and that was the ultimate goal forced upon Obama. It was his worst failure dressed up as a "success". But he is not singularly to blame. BigHealth is the real culprit. He was just a pussy in the face of them. They were the mafia and he was the spineless chump "trying weakly to change things".. They mowed him down like grass and kept all their hostages quite nicely, thank you very much.

This nation is in economic freefall for one industry: BigHealth. The people do want to be taxed to pay for free healthcare. The richer folk can still purchase private insurance for premium care. But that way BigHealth will take a hit. The barrier between economic well being & us is BigHealth. They demand the equivalent of a second mortgage be handed to them by the American family and they demand the equivalent of about 1/3 of the revenue for companies to hire more workers. They have our nation hostage and all other business is suffering.

You didn't notice it quite as much when the economy was strong. But now the Giant Leech is exposed and everyone else is taking the hit; even many of the 1% wondering "why is all the money being spent somewhere besides my industry??" Guess what, families consider healthcare a priority. When they're done getting it...Obamacare or not...what tiny little disposable income some may have is GONE.

That's why maybe nobody has a "right" to free healthcare yet (paid for by sales taxes on tobacco, booze & sugar, tax breaks for those who make their yearly checkups, small co-pay to cover actual costs at clinics), but it is economic stupidity that We allow BigHealth to hold us hostage. We have the right to enact free healthcare for ourselves using Article 1, Section 8...to collect taxes (at the register) to provide for Our Own common Welfare...like we do for fire, police, roads, military etc. What could be more of a necessity for protection of human life than healthcare?

If we stop the hemorrhaging of the American family income at its root, their disposable income will nearly double, and so will their purchasing power. If we stop the hemorrhaging of the American business outlay at its root, there will be more jobs....more startups...more innovation free from fear of too much overhead to make a profit. There will be more income tax revenue, higher GDP, less debt and more economic growth..

Hmmm...more disposable American income to spend and create demand...more jobs...more home sales, more vacations taken...more oil purchased.. more luxuries demanded...

..or not...
You can write off all the career politicians, this country has been there and done done that... It's always failed.

Maybe lets no be insane as an country not try that again??
