Those manning the self-checkouts got a bit more tasks than the Walmart greeters and those folks that check receipts at Costco. Restaurants are getting on the ball too with customers placing their own orders either through an app or kiosk. The industry that got self-service perfected are the gas stations, but they've been at it for quite some time. Banking and brokerages have also done well in transferring tasks to customers.

I understand SOME tasks are "user friendly"........such as banking from your easy chair at home, and not having to wait for a gas jockey to get to your car to put gas in there for you, or pouring your own drink at a fast food place. Everything else is logistically BAD BUSINESS when it comes to "self serve". It's already been proven a HUGE asset for losing money. And no matter what so-called "security features" they can dream up against thieves.........thieves will ALWAYS find ways around it. PERIOD.

My local Walmart has two self checkout locations something like 16 or 18 self-checkouts each. They always have at least two Walmart associates tending each self-checkout areas. I've never seen a day where it would require more than that.
