Little article here in the Washington Times <--- Clicky
They basically took down one of the most powerful and influential corrupt, partisan non-profits there is. ACORN has lost all HUD funding due to action by the Senate, and is about to lose ALL government funding altogether, due to yesterday's House vote. (This is IF President Obama signs the bill.)
Howls for investigation are sprouting up everywhere, from the halls of Congress to podunkyville USA, and we have one of the most elite newscasters on the planet claiming he didn't even know about it?
This monstrous Hydra that is ACORN -- with its tentacles reaching into every pocket in America and with many politicians in its own pocket -- has been eviscerated by two kids, admittedly partisan kids no less, who took an idea and ran with it. This all at great personal risk to themselves -- because you just KNOW Big Media is now investigating THEM instead of the corrupt monster they took some chunks out of -- and spent their meager savings to do the job the Fourth Estate has willfully abandoned.
Big Media and those in power will try to "Joe the Plumber" these two, will spend probably ten times more money than Giles and O'Keefe did, digging into every aspect of their lives looking for something, anything, that will stick in their attempt to tarnish their reputations. And these kids knew this going in, which also makes them courageous.
Hannah and James, two citizens who saw something that was wrong, and took action instead of just standing idly by and doing nothing. My hat is off to them, stepping into the vacuum created by the partisan blinders the Fourth Estate has affixed to its own eyes.
Big Media needs to pay attention. Already scooped and embarrassed by such luminary tabloids as the Enquirer on the John Edwards scandal, burned on the Van Jones affair, smoked by Drudge on the Lewinsky situation, (Which the NYT admits they sat on for months before Drudge's expose') and claiming cluelessness on this, (Charlie Gibson, anyone?) Big Media has been taking it on the chin for so long, credibility eroding for so long, you gotta wonder when they will wake up and smell the coffee. To quote Edward R. Murrow -- whom Giles and O'Keefe resemble much more closely today than Big Media does -- "Have you no sense of decency, sir, at long last? Have you left no sense of decency??"
Murrow, at great risk to himself, took on the powerful monster that was McCarthyism and brought it down. O'Keefe and Giles fit that mold perfectly.
How can Big Media tolerate these embarrassments? Have they NO pride in their craft? Have they NO shame? Have they left, no sense of decency?
These kids deserve a medal. Look at what they did, on their own, on a shoestring. The $1,300 Mission to Fell ACORN
Duo in Sting Video Say Their Effort Was Independent
The proposition was outrageous, outlandish, and right up James E. O'Keefe III's alley. Hannah Giles was on the phone from the District, and she was asking him to dress like her pimp, walk into the offices of the ACORN community activist group, openly admit to wanting to buy a house to run as a brothel, and see what happened.
