What we are doing isn't working, at least not on this topic. When we have a mass shooting like the two we've had in the last few weeks, we find out two things. 1) The person who did the shooting was crazy, and everyone in his life knew it and 2) It was way too easy for that person to get a gun.

It's time to recognized where it has went wrong looking back on better time's, and then bringing it slowly forward from that point.... Then let's study where it is now going wrong, otherwise study honestly where we went wrong after we had it so good during those good times that included all Americans looking back.

Actually, nostalgia for the past is a human instinct. Back in the 1970's, we all looked back at the 1950's as this ideal time. We tend to remember the "good times" and stop thinking about the bad stuff that happened.

Then something went terribly wrong from that point forward. Culture clash began to build immensely, and then government got involved where as it was being pulled into a position taken against another position by political forces. The rest is history..

For instance, when the Black Panthers started openly brandishing gun to threaten police, the NRA supported laws against open carry and Ronald Reagan and other Republicans signed them. The NRA supported the Gun Control Act of 1968.

But then this funny thing happened in the 1970's. Hunting started falling out of fashion as a sport. The Gun Industry needed new markets, and they needed to make guns more accessible. It started with the Cincinnati revolution, where hardliners took over the NRA.

After that, they used every opportunity to loosen gun laws and make them easier for the crazies to get. Because if there are crazy people out there with guns, the family that gave up hunting in the1970's was now going to want a gun for protection. And if someone like Kellermen found a gun in the home is 43 times more likely to kill a household member than a bad guy, then we needed to get the government out of even researching gun violence.

The other part was mental health, that also went wrong in the 1970's. That was when the courts started ruling that we couldn't lock up the mentally ill unless they presented an immediate danger. In addition to preventing the sensible policy of locking up people who had no ability to take care of themselves, it made it harder to get that family member committed.


So, yes, if this WERE the 1970's, Salvador Ramos would have been locked up and not able to buy a gun.

Doesn't matter about the rounds used or the gun's used. What matters most is the plan used, and the person who initiated the plan. What matters is the person's character, mental state, and it matters about his up bringing, his politics if he has any. Otherwise a full assessment of the individual, and then after the profile is gained, begin the search for other's who are like him. However certain trained individual's with no political affiliations or biases needs to be appointed to the task of finding such individual's or it would be a disaster and over reach from Hades that would take place. This should be where political bias ends, and true investigation's begin. Of course there has to be probable cause in order to start an investigation, so a warrant should still be obtained. Now judge's have become a serious issue these days, because their politics or political affiliations or political ideologies have been compromised it seems, so not sure how to resolve that issue.
