No they were told to disperse and were being extremely violent at Lafayette Park. In contrast, the police were lobbing munitions into the Jan 6 peaceful crowd until later on at around 4:00 or 5:00 they became violent. You could say that the police helped cause the violence at jan6 by attacking the crowd. The Lafayette Park protesters were violent and destructive from the get go.Not true. That crowd was there unlawfully. Police were allowed to use their tools to disperse them. That wasn't a green light for protesters to assault police. Assaulting police is a crime. The difference in Lafayette Square is that those protesters were there legally.
