Zone1 about Patron Saints in general

.

Yes, I was confirmed a year ago Easter. Best thing that ever happened to me.

Sorry, I don't have any photos. To publish photos that have been taken for sales purposes would give away too much personal information and there are too many doxxers here. Mostly they are unremarkable Rosaries that are meant to give to needy and ill folks.

Do you have a Patron Saint? I can see if there is a prayer chaplet for that saint.

.
did the bishop come for your confirmation?
I remember that i was given a blessing in Latin then. 👍

I had to be confirmed at the Cathedral, because my sponsor is a priest and he had to be there for a bunch of other people. He's the catechist for a lot of African Catholics and he had to translate for them. He's the one who celebrates the Mass in their language, which I'm so looking forward to experimenting.

I wanted to be confirmed in my tiny home church, otherwise.

But yes, I was confirmed by our Bishop but he used no Latin. I was petrified of being face-to-face with him, but the ladies in my church reassured me that he was not at all intimidating. In fact, he is a Minnesota farm boy and I've heard him refer to himself as such. He's a very humble man.

.

I wondered also why Corpus Christi processions are so little known by them. 😒😒💁
.

Same thing here. We've not had the procession in the two years I've been here, and a larger parish nearby has only once. I'm sure I will attend at the Cathedral next year at that time, and I'm sure they'll have a procession.

.

No I don't have a Patron Saint. The first time I went to church, Pope Paul VI was leading it. I had to ask my sister what the priest was saying because everything but the sermon was in Latin. I don't remember what year they changed to English.
.

I'm sure that the changes post Vatican2 happened gradually.

These days, it can be a challenge to find a Latin Mass. I've been to one. I hope this will change with Pope Leo in the Throne of Peter.

I love the challenge of learning the Mass, piece by piece, in Latin.

he called by my two Christian names, using them correctly in the Latin vocative ❤️😊

i think i can say my second first name here .... it is Paul.
Latin Paulus, and becomes Paule in the vocative 🌻😊

I have a 1961 missal and was just looking at the Creed yesterday, and realizing I understood more than I thought I did.

Do you understand the Latin?

Bishop just called me by my Confirmation name, in English.

I have been thinking of changing to my Confirmation name legally. My mother-in-law did, and it suited her -- Bernadette, or Bernie.

yes, i do

before i learned Latin in school, the Credo was a solemn mysterious chant.

and then when i understood it word by word, i enjoyed it all the more. 👍😊

here just a line ....

Credo in unum Deum, patrem omnipotentem ....

i have heard of Confirmation names, but it was not done with us, then. A pity! A like choosing names. 👍😊

btw ..... in German we differ ....

Prostestants have Konfirmation,
Catholics have Firmung.

Thanks! I know that my Lutheran friend was also confirmed, but it's a different rite than Catholic Confirmation.

Catholics choose the name of a Saint who means something to you as your Confirmation name, especially if you were not given a Saint's name at birth. I was born without a Saint's name and Baptized with that name in a methodist church. My name is a shortened form of an obscure Saint's name, but I was actually named for my aunt.

I might have chosen Thomas, after the famous archbishop of Canterbury. 👍

murdered in the Cathedral 😒

I don't know if you have access to a Catholic TV network called EWTN. It's pretty much seen worldwide.

On Sunday, they have a program called "Saints vs Scoundrels". Their idea of what certain historical pair-ups might have looked like. Last week I watched St. Maximilian Kolbe vs Joseph Goebbels.

Of course a fictional account, but thought provoking.

Another episode that I enjoyed was St. Thomas Moore vs. Henry VIII

It was started by a feisty nun, Mother Angelica, may she Rest In Peace, with $200 and a garage, and is now a worldwide broadcaster.

I found it by Google. 😊

EWTN ... katholisches TV ... der christliche Sender! 👍

15th post
My daughter is attending Santa Clara University which lies in the city of Santa Clara which is the seat of Santa Clara County. It is the home of the Mission de Santa Clara de Assisi, one of the 21 original Spanish California Missions.

iu

One of St. Francis' first disciples, Clara of Assisi is the patron saint of Santa Clara (duh), and also of eye diseases, goldsmiths, laundry, television, needleworkers, bike messengers and Extra Sensory Perception (ESP). Admittedly an odd mix.

FWIW, my daughter is a Buddhist.

Are you speaking English or using a translator here? If you do speak English, you might enjoy hearing this story about Mother Angelica -- the story of the satellite dish. May well have fictional aspects, but Bishop Barron is a very well respected personality in Catholic America.

btw ... you talked of St. Lawrence.
by cooincidence he is the Saint of theDay

Laurentius of Rome 👍
.

I didn't realize that! Maybe father made his homily today about St. Lawrence, but I attend my Sabbath Mass on Saturday.

Thanks for pointing it out.
