A quick question about the shutdown.

All they’re doing is going back to the Obamacare premiums pre-COVID. The hike in subsidies was supposed to be temporary.

Are you now admitting that Obamacare is such a disaster that we need massive government rescues to save it?

Let’s go back to free clinics and cheap catastrophic insurance plans.
The additional subsidies are going away but the rise in premiums isn’t, which is going to hit a lot of Americans really hard.

If you think “free clinics” and catastrophic coverage is the solution, you don’t know much about healthcare and the drivers of cost. The cost is chronic disease management, which isn’t episodic catastrophes and not really addressed by “free clinics”.

(The reliance on “free clinics” is especially perverse. Where else do we rely on people providing free labor to solve a societal problem. Do we expect free construction workers to build houses for the homeless?)

Democrat assholes are holding American citizens hostage to extort money from the very voters that told Dems to sit in the back as the minority and let Republicans run things.

I hope it's clear now, Democrats don't give a shit about elections. There's no douchebag move Dems won't use to continue trying to cram their agenda down America's throats including extortion and inflicting pain on Americans.

Dems are the party that organized an INVASION of 15 million illegals who KILLED, RAPED, and MURDERED Americans HELLO!

Listen. You're talking about an administration that cuts congressional approved spending after a bill is passed. If you dont like the democrats position then go it alone. The Trump administration had 4.5 years to work on a replacement or some healthcare options and all we got was "No one knew healthcare could be so hard?"

I am sure an outline of an agreement would move the democrats but right now Trump said he wont negotiate at all so they are not negotiating.

But they can still keep the government operating. A CLEAN CR is something they should all be able to agree on.

It does not matter how many times you repeat your lie, a lie it remains.
There is no lie to what I stated. It is 100% fact. It only takes a simple majority to suspend the rules and hold the vote to pass it by the same simple majority. Thune and the GOP just don't have the balls. They are transgendered now. Very trendy. Nobody cares about the "We are gonna fire everybody if you don't give us what we want" bullshit. Might as well stand on their hands until they pass out.

Not there yet. Perhaps the first thing is an agreement to extend the subsidies by another year, open the government back up, and then work in the bipartisan committee's healthcare bill with the agreement whatever they come up with gets a straight up or down vote.

So you just expect the republicans to totally capitulate hoping that dems take over in mid terms so they can make it permanent.

Why not just agree to a clean CR, continue with current levels for a month ot two and work on a final bill?

Yes.
That's exactly what the Democrats expect and will accept nothing else.
They will yell and scream and whine and cry and claim that anyone who does not support what they want hates children and wants them to die in the street.

Their lies work on the ignorant and the emotional; rational reasoned people not so much.

Because the GOP refused to work on it in the 7 months since the last time. I don't expect anything. I proposed a path forward that should be acceptable to both sides if they were actually reasonable. I don't care if the shutdown lasts until the midterms. By refusing to negotiate, the GOP has to go nuclear or keep the government closed. 100% their choice.

so pass the CR to keep government open while they work in it. Why is that such a controversial thing?

Sure, you want the repubs to capitulate to your plan in hopes that a year from now, dems will control the governemnt and can make it permanent. Thats not compromise, thats just trying to game the other side to get what you want no matter what.

Seems the dems are refusing to negotiate as well. Pass the cr...its that simple. Government could open today if dems would just say they are OK with the temporary measure.

They are not okay with the temporary measure because in less than 3 weeks the premium increases will be baked into the cake as open enrollment starts November 1. If it is to be done, it has to be done now and that the GOP isn't willing to do anything now means they won't be willing to do anything in 3 weeks.

The CR would keep things as they currently are, until a deal could be reached. This means that people would still be employed in the government, services would still be available. The CR is just an extension of what we already have. Why is that bad?

The democrats do the same thing when they are in power. They dont negotiate with repubs, they want their bills and shove it down republicans throats and then say "elections have consequences".

Because what we have involves a lot of people's health insurance premiums skyrocketing. Johnson has sent the House home and refuses to allow them to do anything even though the Senate still meets. I am starting to think his name must be in the Epstein files the way he is doing anything he can to keep from seating the new member.
