Yes, building don't collapse often in the USA maybe a gas furnace that would have exploded? here in France it is more frequent after a gas furnace exploded but the damage is not so important in my opinion?

It was built in 81' I guess. So the design, materials and construction are solid. I doubt there was "construction" on the roof. Most likely normal maintenance for the roof or HVAC systems.

It is 90 degrees there. The stench will be heavy probably by tomorrow afternoon. Plus they have to carefully remove every brick because their are probably a lot of survivors that can't be heard

Guessing in that part of USA/Florida the building is not serviced by gas. Electric heat furnace for water and when you need heat for the unit maybe a couple months of the year.
