They need to be put on the witness stand during the Senate trial and carefully examined in an adversarial truth seeking process. It's not us that is fighting getting to the very bottom of all this. What is it that you fear?

When unelected staff cannot carry out the policy and order or their elected bosses, they need to resign. If they instead collude to resist, subvert and drive from office their elected Bosses, that needs to be dealt with.

I don't think he is free to just fire them and that is part of the problem. Part of what this process will likely uncover is serious problems in the civil service protections of these employees.
