Columbia is a supposedly "private" university, yet exists ONLY because of public funding. Pull all federal grants and student loans and they are out of business. Even with the $3 billion endowment they have.

Columbia is doomed. Just like print media, these old brick and mortar institutions are an anachronism. Wuhan virus has exposed the absurdity of the old model as everyone went online.

A couple of decades back, The University of Phoenix wanted to offer an MBA program. They wanted a top quality program second to none. So they licensed the MBA curriculum from Harvard Business School. A smart move.

Fast forward and Wuhan is unleashed by China, and suddenly Harvard is an online only school - so exactly WHAT is the difference between the Harvard MBA program and the University of Phoenix MBA program? Other than the price, there is none. Same curriculum, same case studies, same everything.

This is just one example of why the old model of education just doesn't work anymore.
