Judge rejects Mueller's request for delay in Russian troll farm case
A federal judge has rejected special counsel Robert Mueller’s request to delay the first court hearing in a criminal case charging three Russian companies and 13 Russian citizens with using social media and other means to foment strife among Americans in advance of the 2016 U.S. presidential election.

In a brief order Saturday evening, U.S. District Court Judge Dabney Friedrich offered no explanation for her decision to deny a request prosecutors made Friday to put off the scheduled Wednesday arraignment for Concord Management and Consulting, one of the three firms charged in the case.

The 13 people charged in the high-profile indictmentin February are considered unlikely to ever appear in a U.S. court. The three businesses accused of facilitating the alleged Russian troll farm operation — the Internet Research Agency, Concord Management, and Concord Catering — were also expected to simply ignore the American criminal proceedings.

Last month, however, a pair of Washington-area lawyers suddenly surfaced in the case, notifying the court that they represent Concord Management. POLITICO reported at the time that the move appeared to be a bid to force Mueller’s team to turn over relevant evidence to the Russian firm and perhaps even to bait prosecutors into an embarrassing dismissal in order to avoid disclosing sensitive information.
Congress needs to shut this thing down before it compromises national security and embarrasses our nation even further, not to mention undermining a sitting US President

Oh hell no. Let it go forward. I just read about this in another thread. It’s like a game of Texas Holdum. Only the thing requires Mueller to go all in to stay in the game, while the other guy has a big pile of chips before him.

Mueller has a choice. Drop the charges, or go forward. If he drops the charges, then all the other cases look a lot shakier. The other two corporate entities will do the same thing, and again Mueller will face the same choice, drop the charges, or go forward. Again, fold, or call.

The trend will continue, and eventually one of the Russians supposedly behind this will appear, and demand legal council as he is arrested at the airport. Then Mueller will have a real problem. Because the entire point of his charges were not to bring the guilty to justice, but to have a talking point that he could wave like a cudgel.

Let it go forward, because the complaints about Prosecutorial Misconduct and violations of the BAR will start to pile up, and people involved on Muellers side will be facing a future of doom as they lose their license to practice law. Can’t you see Mueller welcoming people to Walmart in the not too distant future?

Starting to look like someone is spreading some money around the federal court system.

The thing is this. The rules for trials are not new. These are the same procedures and legal standards that have been around for a century or more with only a few minor changes. None of those changes are recent. So now Murller wants major changes to the procedures. Mueller doesn’t like that he has to put up or shut up.

Asking for continuance is not any sort of change in procedure. It's done all the time for all sorts of reasons. In fact there needs to be a compelling reason not to grant them. I don't think the judge gave one either.

The Russians demanded proof, evidence, something beyond Mueller's base and bare allegations. Mueller has nothing.

That's why the subpoenas are being ignored. "Where's your proffer?" And there isn't one.

As the so called witnesses fold, resign and crawl away this case will disintegrate.

Not sure why conservatives are rooting for Russians to get away with crimes they committed against the U.S. Actually, I'm pretty sure why.

The defense asks for continuance. The prosecutor doesn’t. Unless the case is really weak and they want time to examine evidence filed by defense.

Both sides ask for continuance for many reasons.

A lawyer in a suit is hardly a prosecutor in a criminal case.
