A 93-year-old woman was handcuffed and jailed after refusing to leave a care home she claimed was no longer accepting her rent.

Juanita Fitzgerald, from Lake County, Florida, was arrested on Tuesday after she said the National Church Residences’ Franklin House housing community had decided to “put her out” after blaming her for mold in her apartment.

Police said she was given notice of her eviction on Monday, but refused to leave the building the next day, reports Florida TV station WKMG.

According to a police report seen by the station, Ms Fitzgerald told officers: “Unless you carry me out of here, I’m not going anywhere.”

A Lake County sheriff’s spokesperson said a deputy tried to connect Ms Fitzgerald with members of her family and other housing facilities, but she refused. She also allegedly turned down the offer to stay with a nurse who worked there.

The report states that as officers attempted to escort her out of the building, she intentionally slid down her chair onto the floor, and resisted police when they tried to pick her up.

They eventually managed to get her out of the independent living facility and put her in the back of a patrol car without handcuffs, it said.

pensioner still faces charges of trespassing and is due to appear in court on 27 December.

Karen Twinem, a spokesperson for National Church Residences, told WKMG Ms Fitzgerald had said she would not pay rent because she thought she would die soon. "

It seems excessive to handcuff her, she's not exactly a threat. :dunno:

Once we shoot all 93 year old women, or put them in jail, we will achieve utopia.

Meanwhile in our sanctuary cities....................................

I don't know why we need to treat elderly like that.

Don't worry about Social Security, Congress is merely "borrowing" the money to help do some wonderful things.....like paying off sexual abused women by Congressional predators using taxpayer money..

The elderly are in good hands.

Did they have to handcuff her? Wouldn't tazing her have worked just as well?

Seems like some type of restraint was in order to protect the old lady if not to protect the officer's. It's a real sad story. Taking care of our elderly is a major problem in America.

People taking care of their own family, is a problem... For the elderly, and disabled. One consequences of nanny statism.

I can remember one of my great grandmother's greatest fears was being put into a nursing home. She had family to take care of her, so it never happened.

You'd think a rich Hollywood leftist would have stepped up and helped the old lady out.

Guess they are too busy raping and destroying the environment with private jets, huge mansions and 12 cylinder cars.

Our cops recently killed a guy who refused to leave the jail. Then they roughed up a guy who didn't want to leave the hospital, and he died. Turns out he really was dying, like he said he was, after all.

Put her in the prison system for a few weeks and they will turn her into a gang member.
