I am not opposed to immigration, but I do want legal immigration. I also believe we should have limits on the numbers and be more discriminatory, based on skillset, on who we allow into the country. Illegal immigrants are getting benefits which they should not receive. That should be stopped. Common sense stuff really.

My wife and her family are first generation immigrants, but they came legally and are/were educated professionals that contributed to society, never drawing any government benefits despite coming with literally nothing but the clothes on their backs and very little money.

Since most of the people being disappeared by ICE are in the system they are legal immigrants.
If we are honest about immigration we will admit we are not doing what needs to be done . We would have signs in Mexico directing immigration to ports of entry. We would have Ellis island type centers to receive people and record refugees or asylum status. But all we did was let people be on their own in an unknown way. They did ask for status as best they understood our rules.
Beyond that if we truly want continued growth we need more people. Being bigots and making it hard will never build a good America.
