What we have here in the U.S are Democratic Socialists, not to be confused with other (mostly old European) models of Socialism.

Except that bailing out very large companies or banks has the goal of protecting supply chains, the financial markets, our food supply, etc. These companies are still privately owned, except of course in the case of GM and AIG which the government took a controlling interest in under the Obama administration. They did relinquish control later.
