5th Circuit says Louisiana law requiring Ten Commandments in classrooms is unconstitutional

‘A federal appeals court on Friday blocked a Louisiana law requiring public school districts to display the Ten Commandments in all classrooms, calling it unconstitutional and setting up a possible Supreme Court battle.

A three-judge panel on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 5th Circuit wrote in its ruling that if the law were allowed to stand, “impressionable students will confront a display of the Ten Commandments for nearly every hour of every school day of their public school education in the course of their regular activities.”

“We are grateful for this decision, which honors the religious diversity and religious-freedom rights of public school families across Louisiana,” the Rev. Darcy Roake, who sued to block the statute with her husband, Adrian Van Young, and other plaintiffs, said in a statement Friday. “As an interfaith family, we believe that our children should receive their religious education at home and within our faith communities, not from government officials.”’

The ruling is perfectly warranted, consistent with settled, accepted Establishment Clause jurisprudence.

Unfortunately, we have a Supreme Court dominated by blind partisan conservative ideologues who have time and again exhibited their contempt for settled, accepted precedent.
Louisiana should ignore this ridiculous “ruling”

Trump can send in the Marines to enforce it.

It's a modern Brown v. Bd of Ed or Plessy

Just ignore it. SCOTUS will overturn it.

No religion is "established" by displaying the 10 Commandments

The 10 commandments are good advice for everyone, not just Christians. Taking the advice of the 10 commandments doesn't make you a Christian. It just makes you a better person, and that is something everyone should strive for.
Who are you trying to kid? We could put the Boy & Girl Scout creed and put out just as good of a message, without the religious baggage. I mean, to kids, you don't need 'do not covet thy neighbor's wife (not to mention it's overtly a male centric view) They both use the word 'God', but so does the pledge of allegiance, and no one is complaining, and so, less religion, but just enough to keep everyone happy.

Louisiana was Catholic. We should go back to mandatory catholic education in all public schools. After all Catholics were here before the scum sucking heretic English.

Does putting up a pride flag in the classroom turns kids LGBTQ+++?

There is a reason for the Separation of Church and State. In the Pre-Revolutionary War history of our country, one had to be a member of the Church oEngland, no Jews....No Catholics just Church of England. Nor anyone hold an public office in Pre-Revolutionary without being Churh of England.

Men such as George .Washington AND Thomas Jefferson were Deists. They believed in a high power, but higher did not involve it self in world affairs. Why would deity who "Created the heavens and the earth", choose just one planet to be concerned about. The Milky Way Galaxy is in the hells half acre of no where, our planet is Only ONE planet out of millions in the Milky Way. The Milky Way is ONE of Billions Galaxies in the Universe.

There are millions if not billions of planets in the Universe. To even begin to think one deity would choose just planet our of billions to be concerned out is beyond ridiculous. It the height of human ego to believe that their sky man is only concerned about them.

And all of you MAGA should read the 1stA again and think about it.

Organized religion has no authority in the public space, ever.
Who says placing the Ten is a tacit endorsement of a religion?

Do some digging and explain why the Ten are already displayed in some Federal and State building's.

The government favoring one religion over another is against letter and spirit of the First Amendment. Unless, of course, a law favoring Judaism over the others. That's OK under Trumpanyahu's administration.
