I think the major US media is, by and large, afraid to be seen as sympathizing too much with Christianity. It leads them to soft peddle attacks on Christians, whereas it is trendy in certain circles to be seen as supportive of Islam, so when Muslim are attacked world wide (but not by other Muslims, that's different) they are on the case. The press is human, and tends to think alike, so there is a certain herd mentality at work here.
