- He goes to the private dining room near the Oval Office, where he watches television coverage of the escalating violence.
2:13 p.m.: Rioters breach the Capitol
- The U.S. Capitol Police chief calls for the D.C. National Guard to provide immediate assistance. <-- why this if national guard was already officially requested?
2:24 p.m.: Trump condemns Pence on Twitter
- Members of Congress and Vice President Mike Pence are evacuated to secure locations.
2:38 p.m.: Trump posts another tweet
- As rioters are swarming the building, Trump tweets that Pence "didn't have the courage to do what should have been done," further inciting the crowd.
3:36 p.m.: White House press secretary announces National Guard deployment
- He asks his supporters to "stay peaceful" but does not urge them to disperse.
4:17 p.m.: Trump releases a video message
- The tweet from Kayleigh McEnany states that the Guard is "on the way" at Trump's direction, more than an hour after the riot began.
- The January 6th Committee later concluded that Trump never gave an official order for the deployment. The eventual mobilization followed requests from the Pentagon and D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser.
- In the video, he tells the rioters to go home, but also repeats false claims about the election and tells them, "We love you. You're very special".
- The video is widely condemned and later removed by Twitter and Facebook.
