Should any prez be making recommendations for opening investigations based on reports by fringe media outlets?

Yet you totally ignore the "apparent reference to an unfounded accusation". I am okay with there being an investigation while you apparently don't want it investigated because you are afraid of what they might find.

There’s been investigations. Your side just keeps demanding more investigations because the previous investigations didn’t reveal what you had already decided happened even before the first investigation.

Trump falsely suggests FBI agents to blame for igniting Jan. 6 violence

President Donald Trump on Saturday falsely accused the FBI of fomenting the Jan. 6, 2021, assault on the Capitol — a sharp escalation of his attacks on the bureau and his effort to downplay the violence a mob of his supporters inflicted that day.

Trump on social media said the FBI had “secretly placed” 274 agents into the crowd of rioters who stormed the Capitol to disrupt the certification of Joe Biden’s victory in the 2020 election.

In reality, the inspector general of the Justice Department revealed 10 months ago that “hundreds” of FBI agents went to the Capitol to assist at the request of the beleaguered Capitol Police. The bureau also had personnel responding to pipe bombs placed outside the national Republican and Democratic parties’ headquarters and to a vehicle full of explosives.

The inspector general did find that 26 FBI confidential sources — who are not employees of the bureau but have at times shared information — were among the crowd that day. But nearly all of them, the IG found, did not tell the bureau of their plans to attend, and none were instructed to violate any laws or participate in the riot.

The IG report also found “no evidence” that the agency had “undercover employees in the various protest crowds, or at the Capitol, on January 6.”

The president’s post appears to be an escalation that falsely accuses the agency of inciting the riot, based on a series of reports across conservative websites. On Thursday, Just The News said it obtained an “after action report” that was turned over to a recently launched House subcommittee to reinvestigate Jan. 6. Just The News claimed the report — of which the veracity has not been confirmed by POLITICO — revealed the FBI “had a total of 274 agents deployed to the Capitol in plainclothes and with guns after the violence started” but with no clear identification.

Trump says he 'would think' DOJ is investigating former FBI Director Christopher Wray

President Donald Trump, in an exclusive interview Sunday with NBC News, accused former FBI Director Christopher Wray of “inappropriate” behavior during his tenure and said he “would think” the Justice Department is investigating him.

“I would imagine. I would certainly imagine. I would think they are doing that,” Trump said in a phone call when he was asked whether the Justice Department should investigate Wray.

Trump accused him of wrongdoing in the interview, saying Wray, who resigned at the end of the Biden administration, “did a terrible job and we just found out about it.”

“I think it’s very inappropriate what he, what he did. And I think a lot of his service was very inappropriate. But we haven’t gone beyond that. Don’t forget, we just found out about all of these FBI agents being there,” he said. The comment about FBI agents’ “being there” was an apparent reference to an unfounded accusation Trump posted Saturday on Truth Social alleging that the FBI “secretly placed, against all Rules, Regulations, Protocols, and Standards, 274 FBI Agents into the Crowd just prior to, and during, the January 6th Hoax.”

Don wants an investigation initiated into Chris Wray based on nutty media outlet reports, not the IG's report. He's the prez. Why didn't he already know about the findings of the IG on this matter?

Or is that not the problem? Perhaps the problem is he'd rather believe what he sees on right wing sites peddling absolute, conspiratorial crap than the reality of what occurred on Jan. 6 because of his culpability for it.
No president should ever make any requests of investigation of an individual, and doubly an opponent, publicly.... EVER! It spoils the jury pool. It looks like malicious prosecution or selective prosecution, which is against the law....the accused can get their cases dismissed before trial based on things like that....

Why would I be afraid of what is found since an investigation has already been conducted by the IG?

It violates the independence the DoJ is supposed to have from the executive.

Because the thread is about opening an investigation that you find objectionable I suppose....

J6 was funded by Kirk's Turning Point and trump. It was an attempt to overturn an election. Bottom line...

Should Presidents be inciting violence and division by spotlighting isolated Police killings of Black men? How about Presidents arming Mexican drug Cartels with thousands of weapons? Your selective concern about Presidential over-reach is laughable.

The thread is about trump basing his belief an investigation of Wray is necessary based on a disproven theory about the FBI's participation in the Jan. 6 riot that came from a couple of nutbag conservative media sites.

Lies about Fast and Furious won't help you on this thread.

Then perhaps you should ask the mods to change the title to the thread from the question you asked (and I answered) to your arbitrary declaration of reality as you see it.

Your thread is about Presidential over-reach. In the case of Trump, I would classify that as a modest over-reach at best. In the case of Obama, I would classify that as blatant and possibly impeachable over-reach.

I am not concerned about the basis for which a President suggests that an investigation may be warranted.

An investigation, itself, should serve to clear up any misunderstanding. It isn’t a synonym for “prosecution.”

The president also projects guilt upon those he asks publicly to be investigated....he doesn't just ask DOJ to investigate.....

Him saying they are guilty blah blah blah, via tweet.... spoils the jury pool and defendant's right to a fair trial.

Well, if the Gateway Pindit said it, it must be true and we must spend government money on an investigation

An arrest on any charge which holds public interest also potentially taints a jury pool as does any PR release from any public prosecutor on such a case.

But only in very rare cases does that lead to a successful defense motion for a change of venue.

Prosecutors are measured and careful not to do Propaganda releases on a defendant....

all but Trump's shitty, unlawful, partisan, unjust, Doj who have been breaking all rules and protocol on it......

Enough already with this wrong being right, this down being up, this injustice being called justice!
