16,000 to 18,000 fast food workers lost out in CA

No; Whst we want is for these jobs to not be seen as a means to support a family. They’re supposed to be auxiliary income, entry-level, or temporary positions filled by them youth, the elderly, and those seeking more permanent employment.

By the time California Governor Gavin Newsom signed into law the $20 minimum wage for fast food workers, he had been warned by many that it would be devastating for the industry, but he did it anyway. Now, 16,000 fast food jobs have been lost and fast food prices are up more than 14.5%. And here is why: the $20 minimum wage harms California’s least skilled and least experienced workers, as they are no more productive, but are significantly more expensive, and results in harms the business owners as well.

I just invested a bundle in fast food robots.
They're up and coming.

Amazing what companies will do when they figure out that $20/hr plus benefits for an entry level employee can be replaced for a one-time expenditure that always shows up, doesn't get sick, pregnant, or hurt on the job and doesn't complain when told to perform a task. That entry level job is terrible until its not there anymore. Maybe these displaced employees can work the fields.

Doesn't spit in your food either.... Robots are taking over the harvesting too.

Yup, I worked in the food processing industry for 33 years and I've seen robotics performing repetitive jobs creeping into that industry for many years. Employees are going to complain until the jobs aren't there and then they are going to go hungry.

Went to a local fast food restaurant yesterday. People to take orders were gone, replaced with two terminals. Only people working were two cooks and one at the drive thru window.

/----/ Hardworking teens looking for a first job to get experience and learn responsibility have only politicians and greedy adults to thank for demanding ever-increasing minimum wage pay.

There are 750,500 restaurant jobs in California. 16,000 represents 2 percent.

The other 98 percent are now better paid.

And to think people don't believe me when I say most manufacturing jobs lost were automated out of existence and are never coming back. Only a minority went offshore.

/----/ It's more like 18,000, but yeah, it's a small percentage if we distort the numbers the way you do.
"A new academic working paper finds that the hike boosted wages for fast-food workers by about 8 percent—but it also reduced fast-food employment in California by roughly 3 percent, or 18,000 jobs."

Why do I say that? You assume all restaurant jobs are minimum wage. They aren't. Waitstaff and bartenders work on a different pay scale because they also get tips, which are now tax-free. (Thank you, President Trump)

Many in the restaurant business are on a different pay scale not affected by minimum wage. So, to lump them all in the same category of 750,000 is misleading, and you're good at doing that.

Restaurant Jobs Salary

The salary for restaurant jobs can vary significantly based on the role, experience, and location. Here are some examples of high-paying restaurant jobs and their average salaries:

Yep, automated right on over to China and/or down to Mexico.

I'm actually astonished at the level of dexterity some of these automated machines have been able to accomplish. At one time I kind of pooh- poohed the idea insisting that there was no way any machine could duplicate the touch of a human hand when it came to certain types of processing.
I had no idea how wrong I was. Not only can they duplicate it at this point they have surpassed it.

/—-/ I’m reading the biography of Elon Musk. In a Tesla plant he went all robotics. He quickly learned the human brain can analyze a problem quickly and solve problems a robot can not. He gave examples but they are too long to list here.
He yanked the robots and replaced them with humans everywhere possible.
