100,000 people shot in the US per year! Good guy saving lives?

What I have the biggest problem with is the outcry over murders when it involves school shootings or mass murders. In other words, when it is big news people want something done.

How many threads have we had this year ranting against AR15s because of the School/Mass shootings? The fact is, between 2007 and 2017 there have been a total of 173 people murdered in school or mass shootings. During that same time there have been just under 75,000 (74,618) gun murders (The solid FBI stats for 2016 and 2017 have not been released. I used 11,000 as the number of gun murders those years. Which is almost 1,500 more than the highest of the other years between 2007 and 2017)

75,000 murders, but the overwhelming focus is on the AR15s used in relatively rare school or mass shootings. Apparently the other 74,445 murders don't matter much. They weren't at a school, weren't a mass murder, and didn't involve an AR, so who cares?

During the same 11 year period, there were 32,000 murders that did not involve a gun at all. That is 184 times more people murdered where a gun was not used at all than the number of School/Mass killings with an AR.

This is pure hype and media sensationalism. When the number of fatalities from lightning is over 3x the number of fatalities from School/Mass shootings with ARs, the hype spewed about the rifles is utterly ridiculous.

so i see that you weren't in the Military :afro:. So YOU survived whatever attack you have dreamed up , too bad you didn't have a gun , some ammo and a good number of norma; capacity magazines of your choice Kiss .
Yes I do wish I was armed at the time. There would have been some dead attackers, maybe not all shot in the front. LOL

So you obviously survived these attacks, and yet you wish you could have killed someone? Why?
Because attackers don't warn you so you can pull your gun like in movies. You never see the attacker coming . Your only chance is disarm, distract them, escape or some else to shoot them.

And yet people defend themselves with their guns every day. How does that happen if they never have a chance to pull out their firearm?

100,000 people are shot in the USA every year!

How many were shot by a good guy with a gun saving lives?

The only good guys / hero's are the the people saving more & more lives of gunshot victims thereby reducing the murder rate. Gee I wonder why medical cost keep rising?

Eighty percent of those shootings are violent gang members who you seem to want to roam free while we want them locked up forever. Funny how you demand we punish tens of millions of law abiding gun owners for the criminal misdeeds of a couple of hundred thousand. A couple of hundred thousand that laugh at your stupid laws.

NO ONE is calling for the banning of ALL guns....our country is too invested in the macho image......BUT, sane folks SHOULD call for the banning of military-style, assault weapons with extensive ammo clips whose ONLY purpose is to kill as many people as possible in the shortest number of minutes.....

All that you gun nuts are doing is FACILITATING murderous wackos' jobs for them.
Just arming killers as well as possible.

And your bans will make sure that it is ONLY the killers who get the guns. Nice job, moron.

You could try the Mother Jones mass shooting site....they break down mass shootings with all the information......Lawn mowers killed more people each year than mass public shooters have in 34 out of 35 years of mass shootings.....knives murder more people every single year than all people murdered in mass public shootings in 35 years....every single year.....

Yes.....exactly and of those shooters 90% were already captured and in jail before they were released and allowed to murder people....

America is a great place partly because we are armed. We have the ability to defend ourselves against attackers. And with over 100 million armed Americans, don't look for any gun bans anytime soon. The Supreme Court is on our side--not yours.

You know nothing about the subject! You have never had to fight of armed attackers!

Oh, you need to fight off armed attackers to be an expert? What school did you attend, Parkland?

Living in one of the most dangerous cities in the United States, let's say I'm very familiar with gun violence. I've been shot at, my house has been shot at, and one year, we had three gun murders all within a mile of my home.

What I do know is that people need the right to protect themselves, and not using limitations set out by the anti-gunners or liberals. We need any edge we can get against all lowlifes who do plan on committing acts of violence.

As you know, this has never been about facts, truth or reality. These people don't like guns, and they really don't like people who own and carry guns....it is an irrational fear they have that makes them do everything they can to ban and remove guns from our hands....there is no fact, debate point or rational argument that will change their minds......

These are media puppets we're talking about here. In Florida, that kid killed just as many people as a holiday weekend in Chicago, but nobody makes a big deal about Chicago, only the school shooting.

Why? Because the media has a way of sensationalizing school shootings. We put ourselves in the place of the families and ask how we would be able do deal with something like that if one of the victims was our son, our daughter, our grandson......

But we don't do the same about the innocent child who gets gunned down in the street in a drive-by shooting. It's a one day story and local one at best. It happens here all the time, and it only gets reported on slow news days.

You are beyond retarded. I never want violent gang members roaming free. That would be Trumptards who filled jails with hard working non-violent undocumented so violent gang members are left roaming free. Jails are full so full that St. Louis mayor Lyda Krewson said “We can't arrest our way out of this situation”...“We can't incarcerate our way out of this situation.” so criminals roam free!!!

Good guy with a gun is a fantasy slogan meant to instill a picture in people's minds that a killing machine will make them safe. The reality is more like what happened in the Scalise softball shooting or in the gun violence in the big cities. Having a gun doesn't prevent anything. It doesn't keep a deranged person from carrying out their planned vendetta. It doesn't prevent a methed out fiend trying to support their habit by mugging and robbing. These people aren't reasonable or stable. Neither are the heat of the moment people that basically explode and do something regrettable. Emotions, instability, and mental health issues really mess with people's heads. You take away the love of a man's life and there's a chance you will have a fight to the death.

In the Scalise softball shooting, a man opened fired and put max damage organ shreading bullets in flesh before the good guy with gun could even act. The shooter was prepared to die. And his bullets tumbled through and put length wide holes in Scalise's body the way the engineers and military intended. This is not prevention. The only thing it does is give a slim chance to kill the shooter first in a shootout or prevent further carnage once it has started. It's not a defensive weapon. It's an offense is the best defense weapon. Well in reality, prevention is the best defense. Defense is the best defense. And more kill machines just begs for more need for actual prevention and defense.

So how would that softball shooting have turned out if nobody was there with a gun?

There is no possible way to stop a kook before he acts like a kook. A kook will always be a kook and a killer will always be a killer. There is no way to stop that. But once the shooting starts, there are ways to stop the kook, and that way is with a gun.

I'm sure our police officers would love to do their job without carrying a gun, but that is impossible. Why? Because they are going to run into kooks that want to kill them.

1000 words won’t stop a criminal from killing you

1000 words won’t stop someone who wants to kill themselfs from killing themselfs.

Presenting a solution for a nonexistent problem solved nothing.

Better check your numbers, unless you rely on Facebook for your news.
The first is data for deaths by guns, which is included in an annual report about deaths of all types during calendar year 2009. The numbers for gun deaths is broken down into several categories:

Suicide: 18,735 deaths
Homicide: 11,493 deaths
Unintentional: 554 deaths
Legal interventions: 333 deaths
Undetermined: 232 deaths

Total: 31,347 deaths

The second data set tracks non-fatal injuries by guns. According to the CDC, there were 73,505 non-fatal firearm injuries in 2010. (We will ignore an additional 13,851 non-fatal injuries from BB or pellet guns.)

How accurate is the Facebook post?

If you add together the gun deaths and the non-fatal gun injuries, you get 104,852 people shot in a year. That’s very close to the 1000,000 the Facebook post said.
------------------------------------------------------------ so 18 thousand suiciders , they don't count as they'll just kill themselves in a different fashion . Legal interventions are also cool and don't count and non fatal doesn't count either . All in ALL thats pretty good for a country of 330 million of all sorts in the USA . How many die yearly traveling Americas highways and byways Kiss .

Non fatal doesn't count? Imagine the medical bills. How many cripples created?
------------------------------------------------ such is life , pay the bill if you shoot yourself or your kid or other in a gun accident Brian .

Plenty of crime victims being shot too. Big strain on our health system.
Is it the strain on the healthcare system you are concerned with, or only as it pertains to guns?

Then you have to ask yourself if it's the guns or the people there?

London reported a higher murder rate last month than New York city. Most of the murders were conducted with knives. In spite of all their gun control, they had gun murders on top of the knives.

In middle-class and upper-class suburbs all across America, they are reasonably safe places to live. If you gave every single resident a gun in these places, it wouldn't change their environment one bit. Move lower income people to those suburbs, and crime skyrockets.

How do I know? I live in one of those places. At one time when it was all white working class people, we had one murder every 10 or 15 years. Now we have three to four a year. Our stores would stay open to midnight. Today, most of them close when it gets dark. People used to fight to open up a business here. Today, we are begging anybody to open up a business because of the crime.

If you took away every gun from every American citizen, lowlifes will still be lowlifes. They will find a way to rob, to rape, to kill no matter what you try to do. You people just can't seem to understand this simple concept.

Yes but we have lots of guns ray. And just like you get gun courage, armed criminals have it too. The guy who would be too scared to commit a crime without a gun, now finds the courage.

Funny I don't see countries with strong gun control having regular mass shootings...

No, that's not how it works. Criminals don't become criminals because they have access to guns. They are criminals because they are criminals. The only thing to stop them is prison or gun them down yourself.

Just like the results in London. The lack of guns didn't stop the criminals from committing crime, they just found a different way to commit the same crimes.

So make guns illegal. Yeah, that will stop the criminals from getting guns.......not. Recreational narcotic have been illegal my entire life, yet we have a worse problem with them today than we did 30 years ago.
