Justice Brown Jackson served on the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia from 2013 to 2021, was appointed to the U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit in 2021 and nominated to the Supreme Court in 2022.
Barrett left private practice in 2001. After a fellowship at the George Washington University Law School, she returned to Notre Dame Law School as a professor of law in 2002. Her teaching and scholarship focused on constitutional law, theory, statutory interpretation, civil procedure and evidence and the federal courts. She regularly gave talks at the Federalist Society, where she was a member, and which had been promoting her career since law school.
In May 2017 Barrett was nominated by Republican Pres. Donald Trump to fill a seat on the U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals for the Seventh Circuit, and little more than a year later, he rammed through her nomination to the Supreme Court.
Which was more qualifiied: the woman with 12 years experience on the Federal Bench in one of the busiest judicial districts in the nation, as well as experience as a prosecutor and a public defender prior to being appointed to the bench; or the Federalist Society law professor who had less a been on the Appeals Court Bench for about a year?
