House panel passes college football playoff bill | Richmond Times-Dispatch

WASHINGTON -- A House subcommittee has approved legislation aimed at forcing college football to switch to a playoff system to determine a national champion.

The bill would ban the promotion of a postseason NCAA Division I football game as a national championship unless that title contest is the result of a playoff.

The measure passed by a voice vote today by a House Energy and Commerce Committee subcommittee.

The sponsor, GOP Rep. Joe Barton of Texas, said the current Bowl Championship Series is unfair and won't change unless prompted by Congress.

But some lawmakers on the subcommittee said Congress has better things to do than legislating on college football.

Are you fucking kidding me?

Is Orin Hatch still whining about Utah last year?

Here's another serious issue the House GOP is tackling:

Whereas Christmas is a national holiday celebrated on December 25; and

Whereas the Framers intended that the First Amendment of the Constitution, in prohibiting the establishment of religion, would not prohibit any mention of religion or reference to God in civic dialog: Now, therefore, be it

Resolved, That the House of Representatives--

(1) recognizes the importance of the symbols and traditions of Christmas;

(2) strongly disapproves of attempts to ban references to Christmas; and

(3) expresses support for the use of these symbols and traditions by those who celebrate Christmas.

Yet another example of politicians being in this for the power, prestige, and headlines.. and not for what the fuck they are supposed to be doing... happens in every area of government and in every party.... unfortunately... and unfortunately, people still vote for these 'representatives'

Congress needs to meet only once a month and not propose any more legislation for at least 5 years

Freaking IDIOTS!!!!!!!!

They are as bad as my state legislature....we have some serious issues facing us here in MA with our 1 billion dollar defecit that is growing and our unemployment rate that, unlike the nation last month, is still growing as a percentage.

With those 2 big problems what does my state legislature focus on? Mass. House votes to ban sale of novelty lighters - Boston.com yeah their main concern is keeping patriots lighters off the shelves because kids under 10 may want to play with them.

:cuckoo:

Those threats have been happening since the BCS formula was dreamed up.

Bipartisan stupidity.

How would this legislation not be considered SOCIALISM by the right?

Its only socialism if they don't like the progressive socialist policy....if they (conservative/repbus) like it, for example medicare part D, then its patriotic and A-OK.

And its not limited to the right, the left is just as bad with this type of hypocracy (Iraq war votes for example).
