Wife’s cancer prompts man to enlist

I'd say it was a fine reason to join. He joined out of love for his wife.

We used to respect and admire men who stepped up to the plate and cared for and protected their families. Now we whine about how terrible it is that they have to.

Not "we". That has to be a Republican. I can't imagine a Democrat feeling that way.

Hey, Brain Trust. Look at who posted the OP. Look which people on here are talking about how we should admire this guy and which ones are talking about how we should take this strong, independent, resourceful husband and father and turn him into a puling ward of the state via Nanny Government.

Your brain + logic = KABOOM!!!!!

People enlist in the military for a vast variety of reasons, I'm sure he is not the only one who did so for this reason (family medical issues). Pretty pathetic attempt to promote the public option.

His LOYALTY? He had no intention of joining the military, and simply did force someone to give him something. That is NOT a reason to join.

Yea, he put his own life in danger for the "chance" to save his wife's life. To a Repuglican who would obviously question the man's loyalty, they figure he is one messed up dude.

Oh, right, it's the REPUBLICANS who are questioning the man's loyalty and motivations and saying how messed up he is. :eusa_liar:

Your juvenile little attempt at insulting people via misspelling the party name would be a trifle more effective - it's not ever going to be very effective - if your posts weren't so damned imbecilic that it just looks like you don't know how to spell.
rdean is an idiot

So I'm sitting here in the computer lab, looking at today's news when I see this news article. It will be my only post here today, but I felt it needed to be shared.

We have long been past this point but now more than ever this drives reality home. The fact that people have to enlist so their spouses can have coverage for cancer is a sad thing. I'm sure the man loves his country.

A daughter will now be without her father over the next four years because of this. Sure, when people join the Military this happens all the time, however there is a difference between this and wanting to from the bottom of your heart.

This is only another example of why we need real change in Health Care in this country. Not in 2013, not in 2012, not next year, not next week, but now. Time is of the essence. I could only wish that those in Washington would see that. Otherwise, people die daily when their lives could of been saved if not for the playing of politics.

Guess what, of course, THERE ARE NO JOBS IN THE PRIVATE SECTOR, SO YES, PEOPLE NEED TO WORK AND THE MILITARY IS ALWAYS HIRING. To hell with the health care debate, people need jobs and there aren't any.
:cuckoo::cuckoo:

I have a question too: WHy didn't the Dums mention this when they went to retake the Congress in '06? I didnt hear a peep about health care reform, even though they could have passed it then.
So now the GOP has a health care plan, one that is actually workable, that a majority of Americans support, and wont bankrupt the country--all things Obama says he wants.
Where is the Democratic support for this plan? WHy aren't Democrats rallying around this? Why aren't they being bipartisan, like they always say they are? Why are teh Democrats blocking this great plan? WHy are they lying every single day about the effects of their stupid bloated socialist medical plan?
And instead of blaming the GOP, why dont the Democrats just pass the damn thing? They don't need a single GOP vote to pass (and they can count on Snowe). So why all the delay? If it's that important, just pass it.

The Dems are having a bitch of a time getting their own caucus in line and passing a health care bill right now with a supermajority and you are wondering why they didn't pass a bill in 2006?

lol

Hey, there are 'tards on YOUR side of the aisle around here wondering why Republicans didn't do anything about health care when THEY had control of Congress, and they never had anything close to a supermajority.

They tried to get tort reform and couldn't get it past a democratic controlled house, remember???????????????

Jobless? Join the Military
Economy fueled recruiting gains in FY09
Link
Excerpt:
The military met or exceeded both their numeric and quality recruiting goals during fiscal 2009 for the first time in the 36-year history of the all-volunteer force, the Pentagon’s top military personnel policy official said Tuesday. In addition, retention was deemed “successful” in all the services, the Pentagon said in a press release. A weak economy and increased spending on recruiting were the primary reasons for the recruiting successes. “The investment per accession we were able to deliver this year — because we hadn’t built in the unemployment [rate], as it turned out ... left us with more dollars per recruit than proved to be minimally necessary, given the level of unemployment,” said Bill Carr. The seasonally adjusted U.S. unemployment rate for September stood at 9.8 percent; another 214,000 Americans lost their jobs that month,

Under Clinton, we had the opposite problem.
The poor soldiers that were making $18K in the military found out they could make $100K as civilians. So they left and the GOP said "Clinton is hurting our military."
Then military thrives after Bush crashes the economy.

Clinton hurt the military because he cut its budget and size. That has nothing to do with individual troops choosing to leave after their enlistment is up. When a person leaves the military the slot is still there, its "funded" and on the books - the unit just waits for the next person to fill it.

Its no secret that military recruitment will go up when the economy is doing bad, that has nothing to do with whoever happens to be sitting in the White House.

I don't know where you are getting this 18k number and 100k number. There are only a few prossions that military would be able to make that much money in the private sector during the 90's. In the late 90's early 2000s I was in one of the career fields with the highest possible re-enlistment bonuses (up to 60k to re-enlist), but I certainly was never making only 18k.

Maple is a far right wing fool. What lack of jobs? You mean the loss of jobs created by greed and poor or little regulation of the Reagan pervsion of the last thirty years? Jobs are coming back, slowly. Our company hired sixteen people in the last four months alone.

By election time next year, you fools are going to go so far under that you will you were buried because that would be a step up.

I seem to remember some talk about it. I also remember talk about health care reforms like medical savings accounts that the Democrats shot down like clay pigeons at a shooting gallery.
