Why We Need More, Not Less, Government

"Increased government efforts could do much more to improve our lives in significant ways."In the face of increasing threats to our wellbeing and the inability of the market or individual efforts to effectively address them, we need to expand public sector programs.

For decades, conservatives have been pushing for smaller government, and have consistently called for reduced social spending, less regulation, and more tax cuts. But not everyone agrees. When the financial crisis hit in the fall of 2008 and the economy began to melt down, suddenly there were calls for bigger and more active government. Many people wanted a massive federal stimulus plan to ward off an economic depression, and others demanded the widespread re-regulation of financial markets to prevent a recurrence of these problems.

Needless spending on preventing border crossings should be slashed.

Your post is ignorant and buffoonish beyond belief. :D It was precisely GOVERNMENT which caused the 2008 financial crisis, the ultimate result of the Community Reinvestment Act and the artificially low interest rates created by the Fed. Demanding more government in light of what's happened is like administering more poison to a patient who has been poisoned and nearly died from it.

The CRA didn't really play a big part in the housing bubble. Artificially low interest rates, on the other hand, played a big part, and was something that was supported completely by GW along with many others. There is enough blame to go around.

Every single effort, even the tiniest effort, of ANY action by the government is ONLY possible because the government has men with guns to enforce it's will.

Your local gov't recreational basketball and soccer leages? Funded by the gov't. With money the gov't takes from people. Taken by coercion, with the threat of violence for those who do not comply.

Bans on "bad" foods and smoking? ONLY work because men with guns can enforce that law if the gov't sees fit.

Our society has a lot of problems. And we need a lot of solutions. But deferring to the MEN WITH GUNS for everything? My God, I never thought it would be the right wing telling the LEFT wing that it's not always good to turn to the men with guns for all the answers.

Republican, Democrat, they both want big governments (at least the Dems are honest about it). Small government is what secures our freedom; it's how they did it then and it's how it should be done now!

btw, ya know you Los Angeles wrong, right?

George Bush didnt set interest rates. The Federal Reserve does that.
But it does not negate the argument that gov't caused this problem, not business. The CRA certainly played a part, although too-low interest rates were a much bigger culprit.
Whatever, the last thing we need is more gov't. Government programs have had the opposite effect of their intent.

So excessive government abusing it's power creates problems, so your plan is to give that government even more power? Are you sure you've thought this through?
