Why Tipping Should Be Obsolete

Somehow, I imagine the "Do not tip" crowd would be singing quite the different tune if they were the ones working for peanuts serving cheap, selfish bastards who did not tip.
You just can't imagine being paid a living wage, can you?

That is just not how it works in the restaurant business. Customer tipping encourages good service. A weekly paycheck does not necessarily mean customers will get good service. Besides, some people can make a killing in tips! Much more than an employer would pay them.

You'd end up getting the service similar to what you get at McDonalds.

Then why are you against other employers doing the same, mom?

I'm not. I never said I was, Timmie.

The reality of the situation being that waiters and waitresses do make so little by way of hourly pay , any excuse people offer for not tipping is just a convenient way to rationalize their cheapness and lack of concern for their fellow human being.

If you are not earning a living wage it is because you choose not to.
As a server years ago, I was earning a living wage, partying wage, take a cruise wage, extra money for college wage ... And a do whatever the hell else I wanted to wage.

Screw a living wage ... Leave those peanuts for people who don't have the common sense to do better.
Pay the minimum, expect the minimum, get the minimum ... The minimum is for losers by definition!

You're forgetting that the minimum wage is the base for all salaries.

If you want to make a point, take your wage as a server many years ago and compare/contrast with today's costs. I made my first million in 1980 which bought MUCH more than it does today.

As stated earlier in the thread ... I often had uncashed paychecks in the glove compartment of my car.
The standard wage at that time was $2.10 an hour plus tips.

If a good server/bartender can make $300 a night in cash tips, what the hell do they need with the $12.60 they earned in pay?
Not saying that money isn't money ... Just that the only thing I forgot was to cash my weekly pay-check for $50.20 from time to time.
If you know anything about money, assets and liquid income ... You can probably see where it made more sense to do laundry than run by the bank every week.

The minimum wage is the base for people who expect the minimum and pay the minimum.
The pay I earned from the business so I could come and make tons of cash in tips was more like a "thank you for showing up".
It is what I did for money while in college (as well as a job as a quality technician/auditor).

If anyone wants more out of life than the bare minimum ... It isn't hard to do ... They just need to get off their ass.

Not exactly, the video states, "Why tipping should be banned" Here is the video getting so much deserved attention;

I know many here think that if you post something you are bias to it. Because many here don't think. I'm posting this to hear thoughts on the topic. This discussion is very old.

Wanda Sykes said she went to France where they don't tip. She said they have this crazy idea over there where the business owners actually pay their employees. Lol

I get a Tim Horton coffee every day. I use to tip but no more. Why tip them and not the person in the mcd drive thru?

So anyone can do your job? If its so easy why do they pay you more than minimum wage?

What person on welfare wouldn't take your job if all they had to do was get off their ass?

What they do is just add the cost of service into the price of the food. So in the end you are paying for it anyway.

And I can choose to go there or not. They shouldn't have the option to come in and pay you but not your workers.

We already know all your arguments against it. Seems to work in France.

Mr Pink says I don't believe in tipping. What movie?

My brother works in Europe. He's a big wig. He says Germany has the best economy. Everyone is paid well every job is an appreciated craft. Very low unemployment and the place looks amazing. Same with where he's living now Switzerland. Even the person who's waiting makes a livable wage and no poverty or unemployment.

I think the rich and corporations in america like unemployment. Keeps wages down.

But dare say this and at best you'll be called a socialist.

That was my job at the time ... Not now.
I moved on to bigger and better things that could better provide for my intended lifestyle.
If you want to know why welfare people don't take the job ... Ask them, not me ... I had the job and it paid less than minimum wage.

I didn't have the job because it paid well ... I had it because I could make tips and pay was inconsequential at that point.
I wouldn't have taken the job if it only paid minimum wage ... Who the hell wants the minimum?
