I thought U.S. embassies were all legally U.S. federal territory and any attack upon them was considered an attack upon the U.S. mainland.

So why does the U.S. need to evacuate the Kabul embassy?

Why because the Trump admin signed an agreed for the reduction of troops from 13,000 to 8600 by July 2020. then a full withdrawal by May 2021.

The problem was that Afghanistan was not part of the agreement nor did they sign this agreement. This was an agreement between NATO which includes the US and the Taliban

You can say Biden should have know this would happen also. Yet if the people in the country do not want the taliban then they need to fight hard. The US will support with bombing. Committing ground troops is not something I would agree with.

Still in the first few months in 2020 Trump withdrew about 5,000 troops

The deal was also involved a prisoners exchange between Taliban and Afghanistan. They were not part of the signing so they said hell no.

By mid Jan 2021 additional troops were removed leaving about 2500 troops in the country . They were task to guard the embassy and American people

So Biden is stuck with this issue. Remove the remaining troops or send more troops?

More than 75 percent troop reduction was done under Trump admin.
