They did buy it. They're on the hook for it and, if they default, the bank will repossess it and their credit will be ruined.

Additionally, it's common sense that most Middle Class citizens don't plunk down $150K for a house or $50K for a car. It's financed, but it's theirs to use until paid for. As mentioned above, they're on the hook for it.

A lease is a different deal. When the lease is over, sometimes it comes with an option to buy, but most people just turn it back in.

I'd say it's a pre-conscious effort to impress themselves -- and to avoid conscious awareness of a reality which most productive Americans have become conditioned to by the laissez faire capitalist ruling class that owns most of them lock, stock and barrel.

What is most interesting about this circumstance is how many of these deeply indebted Americans, most of whom live from paycheck-to-paycheck and will never be free from debt, will vigorously defend any suggestion to administratively disenfranchise the One Percent, the financial ruling class which has enslaved them with exploitative interest payments.
