But my father served as a combat Marine officer on Saipan, Guam and his troop carrier was hit by a kamikaze offloading his troops when they hit Okinawa.
Dad voted for many a candidate that was not a veteran, most of them Democrats. My brother did 3 tours in Nam and I turned 18 in 1973. There is not a space for everyone in the military at one time.
We had no business in Nam and the tactics employed there killed many an American foolishly. I fault no one for not enlisting to go there. However, avoiding and BSing their way out like Chambliss did is unacceptable.
