Odd that I saw the thread title, and immediately knew the answer. Not sure where I came across this piece of trivia, but that was the name of “The Skipper” on the show Gilligan's Island. I don't think the name was ever revealed on the show itself, but somewhere, it was established that that was his name.

I don't think it was ever established whether “Gilligan” was the first or last name of that character, nor what his other name was.

The other five characters all had established first and last names.

It was revealed in the first episode...they were on the beach listening to the radio about themselves...it named the skipper jonas grumby...and his first mate gilligan...they never gave a last name.
