White House Wants to Keep Gas Prices High

Doesn't matter what Secretary Chu wants. He does not determine the price of gasoline. The world market and the energy corps decide that. So even as we see the price of gasoline skyrocketing here, we are exporting gasoline and diesel by the tanker load. No lack of oil. No lack of refinery capacity. And the vey wealthy are getting even wealthier.

Bullshit. The federal government sets energy policy.
Four years ago you lefties were convinced beyond a shadow of a doubt that Bush and Cheney were manipulating gas prices. Now the same thing is happening only it's worse. Now a member of the President's Cabinet has freely admitted that he supports high energy prices and the libs give Obama a hall pass.
Does anyone see the hypocrisy here?

Gas, other fuels are top U.S. export

In a first, gas and other fuels are top U.S. export

NEW YORK (AP) – For the first time, the top export of the United States, the world's biggest gas guzzler, is — wait for it — fuel.

In this Nov. 10, 2010 file photo, oil refineries are shown in this aerial view, in Deer Park, Texas. For the first time, the top export of the United States is fuel.

Measured in dollars, the nation is on pace this year to ship more gasoline, diesel, and jet fuel than any other single export, according to U.S. Census data going back to 1990. It will also be the first year in more than 60 that America has been a net exporter of these fuels.

Just how big of a shift is this? A decade ago, fuel wasn't even among the top 25 exports. And for the last five years, America's top export was aircraft.
Non sequitur. The federal government sets energy policy. That energy policy influences the markets that drive the price.
No excuses. No "well that's different.
The Obama administration carries most of the water on this one.

Still waiting for where Obama says he wants to keep gas prices high.

He said so himself.
An your comment about Christians...
It is my sincere hope that you find yourself in a time of need and one of those "Christian Assholes" ignores your ignorance and intolerance and renders assistance to you.

You people who voted for this administration Deserve this the most.

Unfortunately, the rest of us are now PAYING for it too.

This is deliciously RICH.
ONCE AGAIN we have CONZ, completely CLUELESS as to what their own party has been up to and coming on here and spewing their UNSUBSTANTIATED OPINION as if it mattered more than a puddle of warm spit.

First, Thanks to Phil "Foreclosure" Gramm, and the Commodities and Futures Modernization act, speculators are allowed much greater freedom in our markets.

Not that long ago, commercial traders made up about 70 percent of commodity market activity and speculators the remaining 30 percent. For decades, this worked pretty well, serving the commercial participants and keeping prices fairly stable. Prices largely reflected fundamental factors of supply and demand.

But that ratio has flipped in the past few years. Now, speculators are about 70 percent of activity in many commodity markets and commercial hedgers only about 30 percent. This coincided with investment banks creating and selling commodity index funds. These products have poured more than $250 billion into the commodity markets in the past few years, with much of the money flowing into the oil markets. As in any market, when dollars go in, the market has to adjust through prices — in this case, by going up.
Opinion: Lower gas prices are possible now - Dennis Kelleher and Mike Masters - POLITICO.com

Then, after Frank Dodd got passed, we have CONZ trying to HACK THE BUDGET of the very people who monitor the market for ILLEGAL speculation.

The Securities and Exchange Commission and the Commodity Futures Trading Commission are currently drafting rules to govern the $601 trillion swaps market in the wake of the contributions made by unregulated transactions to the 2008 fuel crisis. [Bloomberg] The Obama Administration had sought $308 million for CFTC operations, current plans call for $202 million for the Commission, and the House Republicans would like very much to shave the appropriations down to $172 million.
House GOP Seeks To Cut Funds For Oil Speculation Watch Dog | Desert Beacon

So you created the problem, and when Frank Dodd tried to fix it, you defund the watchdog.

Now perhaps any of you backwoods retard CONZ would like to point out EXACTLY how Obama, ALL BY HIMSELF, raised oil prices by more than 24% which is what the current price tag is on speculation in oil.
$601 trillion.....There has never been that much money in existence in the histroy of mankind.
You are an angry person regurgitating the rantings of other angry people who believe the same nonsense as you. Dismissed

Blaming Obama for gas prices is just the flavor of the month for the uneducated portion of the GOP. Just like their presidential candidates, when this one fails they'll rally behind something else next month.....rinse and repeat.

Your side tried to convince anyone who would listen that Bush 43 and Cheney were deliberately driving up the price of oil to "help their rich oil company buddies".
As they say "what's good for the goose..."..
Your side is just going to have to suck it up and deal. Obama has to answer for high gas prices. And it doesn't matter how you people try to spin it.

Who stopped the keystone pipeline and overrided federal judges to keep drilling moratoriums in tact?....

keystone was the Nebraska governor.....oh and those moratoriums that are now lifted and we have a boom going on down there?

swing and a miss!

Keystone was Obama, keep drinking that Kool Aid  and did your messiah lift the moratoriums?

Even you can't say with a straight face that Obama was for the Keystone pipeline........

actually he is right

We assume this means Gov. Heineman will still oppose the pipeline since in his own words he is worried about this type of pipeline crossing the Ogallala Aquifer. As a reminder, Gov. Heineman sent a letter to the President asking him to deny (not conditionally approve) the pipeline because of the Ogallala Aquifer.

I am asking you to disapprove TransCanada’s pending permit request. Do not allow TransCanada to build a pipeline over the Ogallala Aquifer and risk the potential damage to Nebraska’s water. -Gov. Heineman to President Obama

boldnebraska.org/kxl_texas

and the info is all over if you just search it. they are resubmitting a new route that will not threaten their water. the state department said they could resubmit it some time ago. they dont have a route yet so it cant be approved cause they dont have it :p

The Gop BETTER be playing this video of Chu and the Obama's own words about wanting HIGH GAS prices and beat them over the head with it from now till the election..

Secretary of Energy Stephen Chu

That means CURRENT not FUTURE energy!
Costs are current.
As Secretary Chu like everyone else in Obama's administration are just so much more intelligent then the rest of us and they are so important in our future as Obamtrons!
Chu like others see Americans as so much cattle to move from one place to another.
To feed, to keep healthy and to bury womb to tomb!

Chu as Energy if he had a love of the USA would
A) Never be part of this administration
B) Because he would KNOW that gas prices are the backbone of our economy!

But as I said.. Chu, et.al... they really know best you know for all of us!
And IF we can every figure out how to get simple problem solved with electric cars..
WOW he will be so on target.. so correct that gas prices will be equal to these
Models of hyperinflation

A 100,000 Ukrainian karbovanets (used between 1992 and 1996). In 1996, it was taken out of circulation, and was replaced by the Hryvnya at an exchange rate of 100,000 karbovanzi = 1 Hryvnya (approx. USD 0.50 at that time, about USD 0.20 as of 2007). This translates to an average inflation rate of approximately 1400% per month between 1992 and 1996

So gas in one month at $5.00/gal would be $7,000! for a gallon!

You laugh but I'm sure Chu would be happy!
OH at that electric car problem..
At the best mileage 250 Miles Per Charge Electric Car
Since the battery pack in Jon's car normally needs 12 to 15 kilowatt-hours for a full recharge, it can take 10 to 12 hours to fully charge the vehicle using this technique.

HowStuffWorks "Charging an Electric Car"

So this means I can't do as I do now just hop into my car and take off for 250 miles without stopping for another 10 hours to recharge???

Does that solve like a easily fixed problem???

oil_production_chart.png

Yes, he's just been AWFUL at increasing oil production in this country.

Got anything else you want to reveal you don't know dick about?

Obama has nothing to do with the current oil production. More state lands and private lands have been opened up for oil production, but it’s no thanks to Obama. In fact, he has actively fought energy development, closing federal lands opened by his predecessor.

PolitiFact | Barack Obama says U.S. oil production is at eight-year high

http://www.api.org/news-and-media/ne...and-Facts.ashx

Domestic crude oil production increased by an estimated 110 thousand bbl/d to 5.59 million bbl/d in 2011. A 380-thousand bbl/d increase in lower-48 onshore production in 2011 was partly offset by a 40-thousand bbl/d decline in Alaska and a 230-thousand bbl/d decline in output in the Federal Gulf of Mexico (GOM).

Forecast total crude oil production increases by 240 thousand bbl/d in 2012 and by a further 90 thousand bbl/d in 2013. Continued increases in lower-48 onshore crude oil production of 340 thousand bbl/d in 2012 and 110 thousand bbl/d in 2013 overshadow declines averaging about 20 thousand bbl/d in Alaskan output each year and a 90 thousand bbl/d decrease in 2012 GOM production (U.S. Crude Oil and Liquid Fuels Production Chart). The rise in production is driven by increased oil-directed drilling activity, particularly in onshore shale formations. The number of onshore oil-directed drilling rigs reported by Baker Hughes increased from 777 at the beginning of 2011 to 1,245 on February 3, 2012.

Short-Term Energy Outlook - U.S. Energy Information Administration (EIA)

so he gets no credit that we are producing more oil, but gets all the blame for the higher prices?

Fuck you.

Either he has nothing to do with oil, or he does, you can't have it both ways..

Fuck you and anyone else who thinks like you.

Not because of Obama. In spite of Obama's policies.
The fact is Obama is anti fossil fuel. He has said so in not so many words.
He has been quoted saying "I'd be comfortable with four dollar gasoline".
He has gotten his wish. Oh, Obama may not be directly responsible. The commodities traders are reacting mostly to geo-political conditions. However, Obama could no...SHOULD have not stopped Keystone XL. Should have NEVER banned deep water drilling in the Gulf of Mexico.
In both cases Obama acted politically rather than as a President. Remember his comments about how he wanted to "step on the throats of the oil companies" Or announced his intention to "kick some ass"...?
Obama has to answer to the American people as why he has allowed his energy policy to become what is essentially a TAX. A Tax on our very freedom to move about.

“We agree there is great suffering when the price of gasoline increases in the United States, and so we are very concerned about this,” said Chu, speaking to the House Appropriations energy and water subcommittee. “As I have repeatedly said, in the Department of Energy, what we’re trying to do is diversify our energy supply for transportation so that we have cost-effective means.”

Chu specifically cited a reported breakthrough announced Monday by Envia Systems, which received funding from DOE’s ARPA-E, that could help slash the price of electric vehicle batteries.

He also touted natural gas as “great” and said DOE is researching how to reduce the cost of compressed natural gas tanks for vehicles.
High gasoline prices will make research into such alternatives more urgent, Chu said.“

But is the overall goal to get our price” of gasoline down, asked Nunnelee.

“No, the overall goal is to decrease our dependency on oil, to build and strengthen our economy,” Chu replied. “We think that if you consider all these energy policies, including energy efficiency, we think that we can go a long way to becoming less dependent on oil and [diversifying] our supply and we’ll help the American economy and the American consumers.”

And?

Your argument consists entirely of a member of the Obama administration stating that lowering the price of gasoline is not his priority...

His priority is to make gasoline obsolete, thus making the day-to-day price of gasoline a moot point.

That is all he said, so what is your point?

Since the Obama administration has next to no influence on the current gas prices, which are being caused by price fixing, speculation and artificial bottlenecks created by oil companies at the point of refining, your entire argument is a non-sequitor.

Instead of placing the blame where it belongs, at the feet of the oil companies, you are attempting to deflect the blame to someone who really can't do much about it, for political gain.

Which makes you part of the problem, rather than part of the solution.

In fact, the only thing the administration could do to change the price of oil would be... wait for it...

MORE REGULATION.

Which you people are supposedly strongly against.

So, are you asking him to regulate the energy trading markets?

how can i know that? if you want me to take a guess..i would say it would be political suicide for him not to..probably would depend on how close it was to the election... :p

but the environmentalists and some of the people in texas are protesting hard for it not to happen..they are trying to take a womans farm via eminent domain...really shitty that. and again there is a chance it could pollute a water supply.

there is still the issue of air pollution but if nebraska says ok and they can sort that farm issue and satisfy an environmental study.. i cant see how he could refuse.

but that is a guess.

"The Keystone pipeline is pictured under construction in North Dakota in this undated photograph released in January. Republicans have been turning up the heat on the pipeline, which has been blocked by the Obama administration."

Bottom Line - Keystone pipeline claims just don't add up

So msnbc is lying? :eusa_whistle:

From the above linked article:

In the past five years, more than half a million barrels of oil and other hazardous liquids have been spilled from U.S. pipelines, killing 76 people and causing some $2.4 billion in property damage, according to the U.S. Department of Transportation

it is being blocked because there is no new route submitted. a new route
must be submitted that does not threaten that aquifer. transcanada has stated
they will resubmit it. they do understand that you cannot approve what has not
been submitted then a new enviro study on that re-routed section. it is a process.

obama has done precisely what he was advised by the state department.
even if he were to just do it anyway..if something went wrong people would
never stop chewing on his ass.

i do get that you are dissatisfied. you need to really research that stuff.
it isnt as black and white issue as it seems and unless you crawl a bit deeper than
your main stream sources you arent going to be well informed. there are a lot of variables.
obama is not blocking anything, he is using the established system put in place
by the people.

i have my issues with prez too but he is doing exactly what he is supposed to be doing with that pipeline.
