Favorite (loosely described as) classical piece?

Pictures at an Exhibition by Mossorsky, probably.

I think that's considered Romantic, not Classic, though.

Really depends on my mood.

Pictures at an Exhibition is pretty awesome. Ever heard the Emerson, Lake & Palmer version??

Mussorgsky's also got Night on Bald Mountain, which rocks. It reminds me of Fantasia.

Yeah, middle school kids can be cruel! Still keep singing Annie! It's theraputic!

I sing in my car.

Today we were practicing "Up on the Rooftop" for the Christmas Program at school, the kids didn't know the second or third verses that well, so I started singing them really loud. I told them they better learn it or I would sing AGAIN! (but you can do that with second graders lol)

Years ago, I was stuck behind an rv on the freeway. I was happily singing along to an oldies station when I realized the teeny bopper girls in the RV were singing the same song I was. We happily kept on singing, to the same radio station until traffic started up again.

The first one I ever heard...Theme from the Lone Ranger...

that would be the William Tell Overture.....Excellent piece of music

from Von Suppe ....the Light Calvary Overture

how about Beethoven's 5th piano Concerto

Edvard Grieg, Piano Concerto in A minor, Op. 16, 1. Allegro molto moderato (A minor), performed by Arthur Rubinstein

Edvard Grieg, Piano Concerto in A minor, Op. 16, 2. Adagio (D flat major), performed by Arthur Rubinstein

Edvard Grieg, Piano Concerto in A minor, Op. 16, 3. Allegro moderato molto e marcato (A minor → F major → A major), performed by Arthur Rubinstein

the three videos are on youtube; i'm not allowed to post urls yet.

All of John Williams's work is impressive, even for brass instruments. (I used to play the trombone.)

That being said, Duel of the Fates was particularly impressive.

years ago, i performed a piano adaptation of "promenade," from moussorsky's pictures at an exhibition as a wedding processional. it sounded exquisite (i thought, anyway).

Okay... One more. (I'm in a shredding mood tonight.)

The Great Kat is the stage name of Katherine Thomas (born 1966), an English-born, Long Island NY raised, musician best known for her thrash metal interpretations of well-known pieces of classical music. Most feature her using the electric guitar, but some have her on violin. Thomas is in fact a classically-trained violinist, graduating from the Juilliard School and touring for a time playing conventional classical music before crossing over to metal.

According to her website, Guitar One magazine listed her as one of the "Ten Fastest Shredders of All Time",[1] and many media reviews of her work have praised the speed and clarity of her playing. Her classical background, technical skills and self-promotion are sometimes compared to Yngwie Malmsteen.

Kat's public persona, as portrayed in her publicity photos and videos, is mainly that of a dominatrix, albeit in a somewhat over-the-top, tongue-in-cheek manner.

Seriously, I'm not a big classical music fan, but I'll take some Doris Day from the 40's.
