Posts in another thread got me thinking about it. The three genres describe Tiamat pretty well:

Great band from Sweden with a lot of variation in sound:

Swedish make great musicians oddly. Not sure why, it just seems like it.

Yes, a lot of the best bands are from Sweden. Opeth being at the top of the list.

They are very creative and seem to explore sound more than most bands these days. The best music is always that which breaks the 'norms' of music.

Opeth is friggin' AWESOME. Sweden's got a bunch of those types of bands, along with Norway and Finland, you know more melodic death metal or classical-influenced black metal. It's a good sound. Always liked Dark Tranquility, In Flames, Children of Bodom, Emperor, etc. Fins have got their fair share of good power-metal too.

Haven't gotten much into Tiamat, but I'll give these a listen.

I've seen Opeth play live 4 times, most recently in October. Great shows (in the last one they were with Baroness and High on Fire).

I've seen In Flames once. They were good too but I like their old stuff better than their new.
